What are reasons people get dropped during recruitmen

by:

I'm transferring to MIZ next year as a sophomore, I didn't do any extracurriculars. Did not take any APs and had a 3.0 in high school. I have a 3.8 college gpa.

As a transfer your h.s. gpa and classes won't count, just your college GPA (assuming it's a legit college, not a for-profit university or community college). Leadership, outside activities and volunteerism during college matter, too. The first major reason we cut PNMs is because of grades. We also expect you to be engaging, have confidence and be able to hold a conversation. Don't make us do all the work (LOL). Finally, and this is extremely subjective, we want to know that you will be an asset to our house. That means we expect that you know how to study and won't be a drain on our gpa, that you are mature enough to not do stupid things like drink too much and make a scene, and that you have respect for yourself and others. We find these things out, in part, through recommendations from alums. Be sure to get lots of recs. They matter and any house that says they don't is a house that is desperate to fill quota. Finally, sure, it helps if you are attractive. But it's more important to have character and to be well put together and confident than to be a vacuous beauty. Girls who get by exclusively on their looks are a dime a dozen.

I am confident you will find a house as long as you don't drop out of recruitment because you are too picky. But you should know ahead of time that being a sophomore means you have one strike against you. That's because sororities want to know that you will stick with them for four years and that if they make an investment in you that you will make an investment in them that preferably covers four years. What that means is that you will be judged by a higher standard. So do find some ways to build up your resume now and into the summer (if that's possible). Do some volunteering, for example, or make an even bigger commitment to something that is a passion for you -- marathon running, equestrian, singing and/or playing the guitar/piano. In other words, do something that sets you apart. and, yes, get lots of recs. Good luck to you.

My house takes at most 4 or 5 sophomores. So, she's right, don't take it personally.

It doesn't matter your year in college. Houses have even taken seniors or juniors rushing. If you are a good person with quality character you will find a home and if they cut you it is there loss.

I have never heard of a sorority taking a senior during recruitment. In fact, I have never heard of a senior going through rush. Why would someone do that? Oh, and you might want to learn the difference between "there" and "their."

You’ll get a bid love, just be open minded through the process and don’t bring entitlement along the journey. If you do get dropped by a house, don’t let it get you down, it happen to a majority of the girls and very few people have a picture perfect recruitment. When I went through recruitment in 2018 as a sophomore is was a little nerve wracking, but I made it through and found a house I was beyond ecstatic to join when I opened my bid card. They weren’t my very top choice after the first round but after getting invited back through the week I realized how well I’d fit in and how unique i truly found the sisterhood.
