If you graduate from one of these high schools and wind up at Mizzou, well, that's just sad.

Hey there sweetheart, those schools are just Catholic schools, far inferior to the true elite private schools in STL such as John Burroughs and MICDS. Choosing to go to a great state school where you will dominate is an excellent choice. Why would you put down your own school?

It is absolutely counterintuitive to spend more for high school than college. And if all of that money spent for high school didn't result in mega scholarships to elite universities, then what's the point? St. Louis is the only city I know where people take pride in overpaying for inferior high school educations. I am at Mizzou from out of state for JSchool and I am getting a superior education and preparation for my career. My public high school was just fine. It prepared me for a 34 ACT and resulted in out-of-state tuition at Mizzou to be waived. When I got here and heard people boasting about their private high school education, and then admitted they had at 24 ACT, I was dumbfounded. What a waste. Especially since there are some excellent public school districts in St. Louis.

As an out of stater I’ve grown to really adore the friends I’ve made from STL, but I’ve never understood how concerned they are about where other went to high school, especially the private schools. STL folks are cool but can be so quick to pass judgements as soon as they find out what school someone went to as if that actually depicts who they really are...

I agree. Where I come from, what matters is where you got your degree. Or your most recent degree. High school? Who cares?

What they don't understand is that while they are passing judgment on us for not going to a private high school, we are passing judgment on them for wasting their parents' money on a mediocre education. I haven't heard of even ONE person who went to SLUH, De Smet, Villa etc. who got more than a 26 ACT. In my (public) school, that's an embarrassing score.

MizAlum has revealed to us exactly why private schools in St. Louis are so popular: she wants to choose the parents of her friends. My guess is that she chooses for them to be white. What do you think?

amazing someone actually takes the time to post this. In the real world no one gives a f#@! where you went high school....oh wait you will never enter the real world. You will stay at Mizzou and then retreat right back to your narrow little neighborhood in STL. So Sad.

And most are a sub par education that lack any kind of diversity.

Kids who brag about what highschool they went to in STL is from learned behavior from their parents. Where you go to highschool tells everyone how much money/status your family has, and if you live in a good part of the city. STL is one of the most socio-economically as well as racially segregated cities I've ever lived in, and I'm so glad I left, it's disgusting.

This horse is dead. Let's not beat it any more. We all know that St. Louis girls who are preoccupied with where people go to high school are pretty shallow.
