quotas
by: CuriousDo sororities here at mizzou have upperclassmen quotas? I've heard some southern schools have them or that upperclassmen are considered "free" and don't count towards quota. Would it be worth it for a junior or senior to go through recruitment?

I rushed as a junior and got cut from 12 of 15 houses by Wednesday and it wasn't my 3.8 GPA or the fact that I'm not from money so it was definitely my age. I got into a house but it was so stressful and unless you have crazy connections I don't think it's worth the money to rush.

Or maybe it was the fact that you let people know you are "from money," which is just so tacky. Here's a hint, sweetie. Lots (if not most) of us are from money, but we would never let that be what identifies us. And way to be loyal to your sisterhood by saying "it's not worth the money" to rush." Wait? What money? I thought you were rolling in it, so why would that possibly make a difference? I think I've figured it out. You're just strange. As for the answer to the original question. What do you have to lose by going through rush? If it works out, great. If not, you have no regrets. But keep in mind it is very unlikely you will ever be able to live in the house-- at least with people your own age -- which is a big part of what sorority life is all about.

Anybody who lived in STL County knows why people ask where you went to high school. It's a status thing and it says a lot about how much your parents make without having to flat out ask how much they make. If you're from Ladue, Town and Country, etc, the chances that your parents make a lot are pretty high. Nobody actually cares WHERE you went to high school. But they care what kind of money your parents make.

Where you live in St. Louis County is a status thing? Really? In St. Louis County you can buy a nice house for $300,000. That's hardly the high rent district. In my pledge class we have girls from suburbs in Chicago where the median price of a home is more than $1 million. We also have girls from Alexandria, Va.; La Jolla, Calif.; and suburban Boston, where you can't touch a house for less than $1, not to mention their beach houses. I always laugh when St. Louis girls are so preoccupied with where other girls went to high school. Here's a hint: we're laughing at you, girls. Aim a little higher. It's time to move on because St. Louis just isn't that impressive a place to come from, especially if your only goal is to go back.

Juniors do not count against quota at Mizzou. Having friends in the chapter, good grades, recommendations and a great attitude during recruitment (just like everyone else) are helpful. All chapters are looking for outstanding members. Although some may not take juniors, mine has.

Only in St. Louis does it matter where you went to high school. No one else cares. We've all moved on.
