is this true?

by:

I heard a rumor that some new members aren't allowed to wear their full set of letters until they're initiated, is this true? I haven't seen any Theta pledges that I know in full letters, they only wear things that say 'Theta' on them. Same with Pi Phi pledges, they have the Pi and the Phi but never the Beta. Again, just wondering if it's true because my chapter doesn't do that and it just seems weird.

Those two things you named are true. They're not secrets and it's not weird. Some houses just have national rules regarding those things. Being initiated is a big deal and comes with new and special privileges.

I guess it just seems weird to me because the sorority I just pledged doesn't have that rule. Weird wasn't the right word, different would've worked better. Thanks for answering! Are Pi Phi and Theta the only ones who do that though?

Considering you aren't really a full member of a sorority until you are initiated, this makes perfect sense to me. Theta and PiPhi have extremely strong nationals and this always has been a rule. They think it's rude that you CAN wear all of your letters.

Some sororities consider is hazing new members to not allow them to wear full letters. So no, it's not rude.

If that's hazing, you really don't belong in the Greek system. No one likes true hazing, and simply upholding the traditions of some of the best sororities in the nation is about as far from hazing as you can get. Who is hurt by this? Who is insulted? For whom does it do irreparable harm? Might be time to find out what hazing really is.

Stick it up your AS. (I would have typed AS$ but I'm not allowed to use all 3 letters yet because I'm just a pledge. In one of the most prestigious sororities in the nation) as if any one gives a flying fu(k about your traditions. Don't lecture people on hazing you stupid bitc (again, can't use all the letters till I'm initiated)

I'm in a house that takes away all your letters until you pledge and trust me I understand how weird it is from the other side seeing girls allowed to wear their letters all the time. But I don't go around saying it's "rude" that one sorority has differing traditions than my own. And to be honest this shouldn't even be a fight. A new member asked a question and got an answer, this thread should be dead.

Come on, who cares. To each house their own. Answer the original posters question and get on with it. No need for catty, petty negative bullshlt.
