by:

I was just wondering if anyone knows of houses that have already COBed this semester? I don't think many but I'm just curious

I am a sigma kappa and we aren’t COBing. We got above quota. We might next semester though.

SK COB within the first couple weeks after rush, not sure if they're done yet or what but my roommate went to their COB event a couple weeks ago.

I said we AREN’T COBIng, not that we didn’t. We are only taking friends and sister’s though of our actives, so what I mean is, for the girl that asked, don’t expect us to be having COB events for the public, because we likely wont. And stop trying to make COBing into something negative. Almost every house had to COB last semester, probably even yours.

SK COB'd all their girls within 24 hours of bid day to reach average chapter size. They won't be COB'ing anybody else this semester.

So they had to snap bid? yikes, that's almost as bad as not making quota at all. actually, I think it's more embarrassing.

I am a SK and we didn’t snap bid. We’re a colony so things work a little differently for us. The girls we brought back within 24 hours, tended to be younger sister’s of our active members or best friends that didn’t go through rush. We wanted to make sure they got a spot with the pledge class so that’s what they did. Don’t judge what you don’t understand.

^ that's called "snap-bidding!" anyone you give a bid to the day of is considered a "snap-bid." why don't you learn greek lingo before you go around trying to correct someone who has been in the greek system for years! what a noob.

uhm, no its not "snap bidding" when sk was well over quota. for a colony, "quota" and "average chapter size" are two very different things to reach.

If you give bids to anyone on your bid list after invitations have already been sent out, it's called a snap bid. Whether you need to fill for a pledge class or a house total number, it's still called the same thing. COBing is an informal recruitment process that typically occurs over a few events or outings with some sorority members. It sounds like SK was given the opportunity to snap bid. Hope that clears things up!

So it seems like you're all saying that COBing is mostly picking up friends or relatives of members? So there is little chance if you contact the house directly without knowing anyone in the house? I assume that just a few members pick these COB candidates?

there is public COBing and then there is "hush hush" COBing. public COB houses are listed on the greek life website every semester. typically you will see Sigma, zeta, and phi mu there. SK last year because they were building their house. the reason they are public is because they are looking for a larger number of girls to join and may open their house to COB events/socials a lot like formal recruitment. "hush hush" COBing only occurs when a house needs 1 or 2 girls. Typically members will give their input on friends they have that would be interested and would be a good fit.

Why is the SK girl so uppity up about snap bidding? Who cares? So you had to snap bid to reach house total, some houses didn't even make quota! Let it go you crazies.
