The houses that are the most difficult to get into are those that the most number of PNMs want to return to after each party day. When a huge number of women who go through rush rate a house very high (or pref a house), then the way the system works is that it defaults to which girls the individual sorority wants to have back. So, in effect, the most popular houses become the most difficult to get into because everyone (or almost everyone) wants them. Now, my figures likely are not accurate for this year's rush, but when I was on PanHell two years ago, the most popular houses (based on sheer numbers of girls who wanted to return to that house) might surprise you. The top four (in no particular order, and I chose four because that's all I remember accurately) were Kappa, ADPi, PiPhi and ChiO. A group of other PanHell reps and I talked about this, and we thought that perhaps it was because these houses were not as stereotypical as others, so more PNMs could "see themselves" in those houses. So when people say such-and-such a house "had a good rush" or such-and-such a house "has their pick of new members," that's what it means: that house is difficult to get into because the largest number of rushees want it. There also are other factors at play. There are some houses, for example, that give enormous weight to legacies or recs, whereas there are some houses where being a legacy almost works against you. There also are some houses that have a strict GPA cutoff.

One of the reasons the best houses stay strong is because they have such strong nationals behind them. It also is the reason the Mizzou greek system is so outstanding, because sororities like Theta, ChiO, PiPhi, Delta, Kappa, DG, Alpha Phi and ADPi (especially in the south) have such strong nationals, with plenty of $$$$$, behind them. Of course, one of the reasons the nationals are so well off is because sororities at mizzou are so successful and so big that they keep funneling money in.

If you're talking about nationals that are strong in the south, with plenty of $$$$$, then KD is VERY strong in the south. But from what I've seen here, not so much. The house itself needs a LOT of work, and the girls, well, not so attractive. I guess their claim to fame here is nice/involvement. Same goes for Phi Mu. They are HUGE in the south (no pun intended, but it IS funny.)

I am in a top tear KD house at a southern school where some of the chapters you mentioned as top tear at Mizzou are bottom. I've learned it is often about how much money and effort your LOCAL alumni put into your sorority. It is also not just about money it is about dedication. Also, not to be mean, but I have friends who go to Mizzou and have visited a couple times, and it us not really a southern school. You Greek system and Game Day atmosphere don't really reflect the south, so I wouldn't base your chapters reputations for any sorority off of their southern chapters reputations. You have many great chapters the system is just different. KD love!

Basically all of the "top tier" sororites are hard to get into.

KD and PhiMu may be huge in the south, but that's because it is about quantity, not quality. The strongest sororities are known for being selective and having a top reputation nationally. Just being willing to take most of the girls who walk through the door doesn't make you strong or selective.

What are you smoking? KD and Phi Mu in the south, especially Ole Miss and Alabama, (who practically wrote the book on sororities), are top of the top tier and they take only the best, quality girls. They are very selective, and it's extreemly difficult to get in those houses down there. Did you mean KD and Phi Mu at Mizzou will take anybody? I'm pretty sure that's not true, especially KD. But to be realistic, they're not all that hard to get into, I'll admit. Neither one is a Chi O or DDD, but every sorority has some kind of selection process. The sororities that are hardest to get into -here- are Chi O, DDD, Kappa, Pi Phi, G Phi and maybe ADPi.

Very, very, very few people actually know the real statistics behind which houses are the "hardest" to get into. There are a few women on a national level with NPC who may know that info, and perhaps the paid staff in the Greek Life office (not the grad students, though), but I doubt any others. National sorority heads will only know how well their own chapter does statistically, they are not given the data for the other chapters. The info that former PHA reps have is not the complete statistical data. So please take anything with a grain of salt. Those who truly know will never tell anyone, because that is strictly confidential data.

Yes it's very interesting to actually see the data if your chapter will allow it to be shared. For instance, I'm what you would call a lower tier house and we had higher return rates all week than Pi Phi (a top tier house). Our recruitment board were really excited about that information and chose to share it with us. So no one really knows where the houses truly stand. If we based it off those statistics, heck my house might be top 3!

We are also given data every spring about our bid list. If girls on our bid list choose to go elsewhere, our recruitment board finds out where they joined so we know what houses we're losing girls to to determine who are biggest competitors are.

true. I feel like some houses share, but most keep quiet. Chi O is typically at 100% return rate and they typically have pretty big mouths about it. I've actually heard the whole thing with pi phi before. They're a big house in rush, but they certainly lose a lot of girls to Kappa, and a couple others they wouldn't dare say! (But I know it's a low mid tier house and a bottom house they lose girls to)

Well, I guess the girls who were cut by PiPhi are coming out of the woodwork tonight. PiPhi was among the three sororities with the top return rates this August. ChiO was, too. Kappa? Far below. Can anyone guess the third house? And, girls, saying insulting things about another house, especially on this website, doesn't make it so.

No one gives a flying fu@k about PiPhi! Why is Pi Phi all over this site trying to sell how popular they are during recruitment?

And there's another one!!!!!!!! If I were a PiPhi, I'd defend my house, too. Or ADPi or ChiO or AXO or Zeta or DG or any other house that has been unfairly criticized lately without any proof. And, yes, when you get around to insulting my house, I will call you on that, too, because we all know it's just a matter of time until the back stabbers and wannabes get around to just about every house. In fact, if you don't feel obligated to defend your house, you aren't a very good sister, are you?

By: Not at Mizzou
