cob
by: mizzou22During formal recruitment, I had a family emergency come up which forced me to drop and go back home the week before school started, but I still want to be Greek more than anything! Can any members tell me what the odds are that their house will COB? :)

Most likely sss, phi mu, zeta, and sk. Sk may have a lot of new members, but their nationals will want them to make total house quota, which I think is over 230?? So they will probably cob. These chapters are known for having under 200 most the time so they tend to always cob. Sometimes you can get lucky and some mid tier chapters will cob. Aphi, axo, kd, adpi, Gphi, dg have all been known to cob in the past. It just depends on their total house numbers. Most nationals will want their chapters to be at full capacity

Houses that typically COB:
Alpha Chi Omega
Kappa Delta
Tri Sigma
Zeta
Phi Mu
Sigma Kappa
Now even houses that were 195ish (sigma) or 230 ish last year, depending on how many seniors graduated, could still be high in total. So example sigma had around 195 members last year, but say they only had 15 in their senior class, leaving them with 180 then adding in their new pledge class of around 75 (or whatever), then they're now at 255.
Another example - A house has around 230 but has 40 seniors and some incoming seniors going inactive because of busy schedules (DG), they could also be around 180 then adding in their new pledge class of 80 and they're at 260.
So basically what I'm saying is my guess - most houses if not ALL houses are anywhere from 240 - 280. And if you have a shot to COB any house, I'd take it. That is if you truely want to be greek. Our sororities are all more similar than different - despite what you read on here.

Campus Total at Mizzou for 2013/14 is 288. That is the average chapter size. Any chapter below 288 can COB but it does not mean they will. Typically, more chapters COB during spring semester to replace those who transfer or graduate over winter break to reach Total of 288. Go to the Greek Life office for more information.

A good friend of mine joined ADPi last year through COB. ADPi just didn't "advertise" they were COB'ing. She was lucky enough to have made good friends in her dorm who kept her updated on COB opportunities. I would let as many people as possible know you are very interested in joining a sorority. That way, if a house like ADPi or DG has a few spots again this year, they can let you know ASAP. Good luck! And I agree w/the comment above - ANY sorority at Mizzou will provide you with a great college experience!!

SK isn't going to COB. They don't have any graduating seniors so they didn't lose any numbers and they just joined a PC of over a hundred girls. They don't need to COB, they're at average chapter size. It's simple math guys, when you have a sorority full of juniors and seniors you don't lose any girls to graduation.

Most houses will be below total in the Spring, and most of their national organizations will require they COB if they are below total. With total at 288, even the "top" houses are likely to dip below that number if they have a few graduating seniors/transfers/resignations, which every single chapter has. Houses didn't use to COB as much because total wasn't adjusted every year like it was last year and this year.
Honestly, COB will become much more accepted and have much less stigma attached to it every year, so long as total is adjusted every year like it should be. That doesn't mean houses will advertise that they are doing COB, but I promise you that they will be doing it behind the scenes.

My best friend is in SK and she said they are NOT COBing. They already have total apparently with like 270 members. My friend in Phi Mu said they might be.
