legacy on preference day

by:

So i’m aware that a few houses could fill a whole pledge class with legacies, and they get cut a lot too just like the other girls. However what I heard from a family friend who graduated from here was that if you’re a legacy and you make it to preference round with that house it’s an auto bid. Be honest with us ladies, can we stop sweating once we make it that far?? To clarify I know it takes more than legacy status to make it to preference round.

I can only speak from my personal experience in my house, of course. But there were definitely no such things as auto-bids in our recruitment, and I've never heard of legacies getting such treatment in any house. These days there are A LOT of legacies.Hundreds and hundreds. My house could have probably filled every pledge class with just legacies, and I'm sure the other houses are the same. I know it's not what you want to hear, and again I'm only speaking from my experience, but by preference day a PNM's legacy status is barely even notable, and certainly not decisive. It's just not the way things are done anymore.

You will appear on their bid list somewhere. As a legacy they owe that to you if you get that far. The question is will you be high enough on the list to get a bid, and that depends on how many other girls ahead of you have preffed the house. So, no, it's not a sure thing by any means.

Some sororities do have a national policy that legacies taken to pref must be on the first bid list. If you are a legacy to one of these sororities then yes, it is an auto bid IF you rank them first on your card. If you rank another house first you could get that one instead if you are high enough on their bid list.
