what’s it like joining a sorority as a sophomore
by: SophmoreI’m a sophomore transfer student, and I went to a big10 school where being Greek was a thing, but not super big or exciting enough to be on my radar like it is for an SEC school like Mizzou. Anyway, I signed up for formal recruitment because I wanted to see what it would be like and to help me make friends. I specifically wanted to hear the experiences of other people who joined as a sophomore and what it was like. Are sophomores treated the same as freshman new members? Will active sophomores be open to hanging with the new member ones? Is it an expectation to live in house the following year as a junior? I’m open to the overall experience i’m just really curious.

You will be treated like any new member and will be expected to live in the house your junior year (when everyone else is a sophomore). However, there may be a vacancy in the house your first year and you might be able to move in at semester break. That's more likely in some of the houses that tend to lose a lot of members. You will be judged like any other PNM also, so your grades had better be excellent and you'd better have some activities to show from your first year of college. Some houses take few if any sophomores, so don't take it personally if you aren't asked back to a bunch of houses.

My grades are pretty great and I was involved in an org and held a position in my dorm student council and my older sisters said i’m a legacy to their sorority from when they went to college. I’m not really worried about recruitment.. i’m really comfortable with myself and what I could bring and how I treat people, so I know i’ll get a bid somewhere and i know i’ll make the best out of any sorority, my biggest recruitment week worry is if it’s going to be hot outside or not lol. Your reply was really helpful! Thanks
