tri sigma

by:

I have no problem with any of the Trisigma girls I've met. But I'm not the only one who thinks bringing Trisigma to Mizzou was a mistake, right? They have weak nationals, and little to no national presence. Then you look at SK who, while still bottom because they have yet to fully prove themselves, came in with a game plan and worked hard and really exceeded everyone's expectations. If SK could do it why couldn't Trisigma? Because Trisigma's nationals had no idea what they were doing. AGD/AOPi/AXiD/DZ would all be great assets to Mizzou Greek life, and from what I've heard they're all very interested. Why did we pick Trisigma when there are several other larger, stronger, wealthier sororities who would love to colonize here? This is a serious question, I just don't understand. Trisigma was doomed to fail from the start.

Sigma is huge in Missouri which is probably why they came to Mizzou.

All of you who want Sigma to go away need to realize that if they close, then another house will be at the bottom. Why not be Panhellenic and root for them to be successful instead of spreading rumors that they're about to fold?

They aren't rumors. You can only go so many years in a row not meeting quota before your house gets kicked off campus.

Here is the thing, Sigma is out of the element. They have struggled and their weak nationals have been unable to help them recover. I think they will continue to stay on this campus unless they completely blow this recruitment. My biggest issue with them is that they can't fill their house and are hemorrhaging money because they can't fill their chapter house. If they can't fill that house, then they may as well be signing their own chapter's death certificate.

Moving forward, I would not be surprised for PHA and OGL to bring colonies of DZ, AOPi, AGD onto campus within the next 5 years. Honestly, I would just bring them on this campus to lower the amount of women accepted through recruitment. The fact that chapters have to have almost 100 women in their pledge class is crazy! How can you build a real sisterhood when you don't know everyone in your chapter through and through. I feel like I know everyone in my PC, but did I really know the upperclassman or even the sophomores that well when I went through rush. Now as an upperclassman, I see people wearing my letters who I don't know and that bothers me.

DZ and AOPi were both in the running to come back with SK this last time around and both chapters are eager to get into Mizzou Greek Life. I think AOPi might come back first because they have history here but DZ has stronger Nationals, so it's all up in the air at this point.

This is really sad if they are in fear of losing their charter. They just built that big beautiful home. If they sell it, one of the frats will buy it and it'll be destroyed...

I don't want Sigma to fail. But it will be hard to bring a new chapter on campus when a few chapters consistently fail to make quota.
Honestly, if every chapter MADE quota there would still be room for another chapter or two at Mizzou.
I mean, this year, if every chapter makes quota (and no one drops rush- which won't happen, but still), pledge classes would be 120.
I, personally, would LOVE to see AGD and AOPi back on campus (they have both been here in the past).
I think someone needs to buy Richmond place and tear it down and build a new house.

I agree! Whatever house comes back next should buy out Richmond Place and build their house there. I think that's the real trick for bringing back another house. Sigma Kappa was lucky because they still owned their house and were just renting it out, so luckily they got it ready in time for rush. But if a new sorority comes to campus they'll need a place in Greek Town or their chances of getting girls will be slim.

Well if Sigma doesn't make it, their house will be up for grabs. The property owners of Richmond will never sell that space. Do you know how much money they make in rent? wowza. what fraternity did that house used to belong to any ways?? I know FH was Zeta...

Richmond Place used to be Acacia way back in the day.

Everyone just needs to hope that all houses make quota, or we won't be bringing another sorority to campus. It's that simple.

If Sigma gets kicked off campus like the rumors are saying then they might bring DZ back in like five years. They like to space it out so that new houses can try and get their footing and if you've noticed they've been bringing them to campus in five year increments. First it was Phi Mu, then Sigma, now SK. I think in five years their bring DZ on campus to either compete with or replace Sigma.

If some org with big nationals (DZ, etc.) comes in, they might be able to afford Richmond place.
Again, I want Sigma to do well. there is MORE than enough interest in Greek Life for all 15 chapters to make quota.
I want Sigma to succeed and STILL bring on a new chapter in a few years.

Tri Sigma's Nationals ARE strong

by: Nope.

Tri-Sig's nationals are out of touch and among some of the strictest of all the PHA houses.

Tri Sigma is a former education sorority. Their only good chapters are at directional schools, most of which used to be teacher's colleges. They struggle at schools with big Greek systems. In addition to Mizzou, at UNC they never make quota, at Penn State they closed for numbers a couple of years ago, and at UVA their national put the entire chapter on alumnae status so they can recruit a brand-new chapter next month.

Omg at the UVA comment... I've never heard of such a thing! I would be so insulted if I were in that chapter

Alpha Phi's Nationals did the same thing to the chapter here at Mizzou less than a decade ago.

APhi was reorganized ("revitalized" in national-speak) in 1998 because they were a weak-recruiting chapter with the smallest numbers on campus. You can look it up in old Maneaters online, but they had something like 40 members when national stepped in. It was very controversial at the time, and there were lots of hurt feelings, threats of lawsuits, etc., but it was what was needed to keep the chapter from having to close completely and wait a potentially very long time to recolonize.

The revitalization strategy also saved APhi's chapters at Cornell, Duke, and UVA. All three are considered upper-middle to top chapters today.

What's PHA membership quota? And DZ we trying to make a colony here at Mizzou last year and so was AOPi.... both of those ended up a complete wreck and most girls who wanted to be a part them quit and or did COB. AGD is probably the best choice if they were to show interest. I really hope Sigma makes their numbers because they've slowly been getting better girls. I just think they'll be better of once their 'PC 12 graduates

Literally neither of those houses tried to colonize here in the way you're talking about. They've never participated in rush so you're theory about girls quitting is absolutely unfounded. Just complete lies.

Sigma Kappa is the last house we had colonize. You don't know what you're talking about, you're a moron.

You're an idiot. there was a group of girls here on campus last year trying to bring DZ to campus I knew one personally who quit and did COB. It didn't work for them because they didn't see any chance of getting a house in Greek town in the near future. Obviously they participate in recruitment. Same thing AOPi happened. 100% true.

EXACTLY. DZ is courting Mizzou to become a bonafide, affiliated PHA chapter. You don't put on rush as a PHA sorority unless your nationals are behind you and the University approves you. And there hasn't been a single PHA house to do that since Sigma Kappa less than five years ago.
