recommendation letters
by: GreekCuriousWhat is the importance of the rec letters on sorority rush? And how many are needed if any.
#2by: Important
In my house, they are extremely important. The official recruitment application asks for basic information, but there really is no place to provide information on who someone really is. That's what recs are for. They are completed by an alum who knows the PNM they are recommending and can provide all sorts of information. And we pay attention to them. One stands out in particular. It was written by a woman who was a widow and newly single mom. Every day her senior year the PNM came to the alum's home after school to wait for her young children to get off the bus. The young woman welcomed the children home, had a snack ready for them, asked them about their day and helped them with their homework. She even started dinner. The recommendation said the PNM "allowed me to be my best at work because I didn't have to worry about my kids, and then to be my best at home. She treated my children with love and humor and care and concern. She made an indelible impression on them, while earning a 3.9 gpa, taking mostly AP classes and holding a weekend job. She was not just a baby sitter, but a role model." This young woman might not have stood apart from the crowd, but after finding out more about her we found she was warm and wonderful and it is because of the rec we received on her. A rec is a great way to stand apart. You would be a fool not to get as many recs as you can.
