rush

1st pick houses (these are the houses everyone wants to be invited back to in no order):
Chi O, Kappa, Pi Phi, Tri Delta, Theta, ADPi
2nd pick houses (these are great options if you didn't get your number 1 choice in no order):
APhi, Gphi, AXO, DG, KD,
3rd choice (these houses are the ones girls will take just to be in a house - but not necessarily happy about in no order):
ZTA, Phi Mu, Sigma
These are true (give or take). For instance, you always hear about people cutting "popular" houses or loving "bottom tier" houses right off the bat. I'm an example of that - I hated GPhi, but loved ZTA. I didn't end up in either of those houses (dropped GPhi the first day, ZTA on philanthropy day), but I feel like I could've probably seen myself in either after learning more about the houses later in the year.

YESYESYES. This is exactly right. And just because there are certain picks doesn't mean you won't have a girl that top tier houses want to get end up in a bottom tier house because she likes it better there. My roommate is a Phi Mu because she's a triple legacy and loved the girls there and she had Pi Phi and Delta on Pref Night along with Phi Mu. Just because certain "types of girls" go for one house doesn't mean anything.
Recruitment is all about where you feel comfortable and accepted. And if that's a top tier house or a bottom tier house then you should go with that. Because trust me, you'd rather be in a bottom tier house you love than a top tier house you hate. My sister was in a top tier house at Ole'Mis and she HATED it because she didn't like the girls. Ended up dropping after a year because she was miserable.
Go with your heart and ignore the tiers/rumors/stereotypes because at the end of the day all the matters is that you love your sisters.

For the three tier, I would move Gphi up to a 1st pick (at least I liked it better as the week went on) and zeta up to second pick.
When I rushed as a sophomore I divided the houses into two tiers of what I would be happy with for sure and what I'd rather not pledge in favor of trying to COB.
1st: Chi O, Kappa, Pi Phi, Tri Delta, Theta, ADPi, Aphi, Gphi, DG
2nd: AXO, KD, Zeta, Phi Mu, TriSigma
And in case you were wondering, I did end up COB-ing into one of my first choice houses, but these were my days:
open house - all, duh
skit-Full 11 but not: Tri Delta, Pi Phi, or Zeta
Philanthropy- AXO, Aphi, Phi Mu, Trisigma
Preference- TriSigma
And I dropped before going to my preference day option!

I can see how zeta may be a second pick during recruitment. I put them there bc even though they tend to rush well, many of their girls drop and they struggle for retention every year. So yes they would be a second choice for rush, but throughout the year they fade in with the other 3rd pick houses.
As for gphi I wouldn't put them in 1st round picks. Many of the ladies I rushed with much rather have gone with a top pick over gphi. I know quite a few girls that didn't make it into theta and DG (when they were top) and chose to rush gphi as a back up.
Again, it's give or take with some houses. This just seems to be the current trends I've noticed.

GPhi: oh gawd this was painful. I knew nothing about this house walking in and all the girl talked about was her tattoo and partying. I don't have tattoos, and you're not supposed to talk about partying/boys/alcohol. cut them immediately.
DG: I had heard so much about this house (this is when they were top tier) that I wanted to join right away, but all I can remember is how rude the girls were (one yawned in my face). I do remember their hello/goodbye songs - loved that.
Theta: another favorite all week. Cutest walk out! I had friends here so I just talked to them mostly.
AXO: this was the first house on the first day. wow did they make me feel at home! everyone was so laid back and so nice. I didn't know anything about this house but they were probably in my top 5 all week.
Phi Mu: this was painful. I remember that they didn't have enough girls to each take only one in the house, so I got paired with another girl who was in tears from being cut from her legacy house (delta) that day. made it very awkward. the Phi Mu did an amazing job ignoring the negatives and focused on a light conversation. good job.

Kappa: again, this is a house I was biased towards. I got cut from kappa on the first day though. the girl and I just did not make a connection. It was so loud and dark and near the end of the day that I think we both gave up. mutual negative.
ADPi: wow did I click with this house. But we mainly talked about their competitions... which makes sense now. But I remember really wanting to go back the next day!

A lot of girls Rush GPhi when they can't get Pi Phi or Delta because they like to try and go for a more involved house first.
