so here's the deal, i am from out of state and would love nothing more than to be in a sorority at the zou. the only problem is i am not a legacy and i know no one who is a legacy of any sort of sorority. is the only letters of rec they ask for from legacies or is there something else i could offer? i'm worried that i'm just going to be overlooked if i don't have someone to vouch for me.

You're past the point of sending a letter of Rec. they were due awhile ago! No worries you'll be fine. Not knowing anyone works to your advantage

Rec letters have no real due date... as long as they get there by like early August it's fine.

My house stopped taking them in June. Maybe the less competitive houses still take then then? Idk. Regardless, you're fine.

Your house stopped taking them before Recruitment sign-ups even opened? Alright. Also, "less competitive houses", you're joking right? Recruitment is competitive point blank period. There's no such thing as a non-competitive house.

I was in a similar situation (out of state, no recs, not a legacy) but I found recruitment to be no different for myself than girls who had recs for every house. Thankfully at Mizzou you don't really need those things in order to get into a house. I pledged Kappa without knowing anybody because they don't seem to mind either way and I know most of the other houses on campus are the same way. It's more about personality/grades and your impression on the house :)

Ask your parents /aunts to ask their friends if any of them were in sororities! Although they say letters of recommendation should be from someone you know well, many of mine came from friends of friends. Just send them your resume, maybe meet up with them for a few minutes so they can see your personality! You don't HAVE to have them, but if you look around it'll be easier than you think to find them!

I agree, asking around doesn't hurt but it's not needed to get into a house.
