Informal recruitment thoughts? Likely hood of getting a bid? How does it work?

Usually getting invited back for an informal recruitment event is really good and means the house either remembers you from recruitment or has heard good things about you. Usually when you get asked back for informal 9 times out of 10 you get a bid. Just go in with a positive attitude and put on a big smile and they’ll love you

There are more than a dozen great houses on this campus and not all of them do informal. If you want to find the absolute best fit, go through formal recruitment so you can see them all and compare them. If you just want to settle and get into any house, then informal is fine. Depends on your standards.

I am a member of a minority and signed up for informal last year. I didn't get even one invitation to attend a party while all around me in the dorm people were getting invitations and bids. I am from the suburbs of a large city (not STL or K.C.), had a 3.86 in high school and a 29 ACT. Not the best. But let's put it this way -- it wasn't my academic performance that was keeping me from being considered. Not discouraged, I went through formal this year and wound up in a great house. There is something inherently unfair about informal and I really believe it's not worth your time unless you have good friends in a house and are willing to join for that reason.

Glad you got into a house this year, but perhaps part of your problem with Informal was the chip on your shoulder...??

A person of color signs up for informal recruitment. People all around her are getting invitations and bids. No one contacts her. She refuses to be discouraged and goes through formal recruitment with outstanding results. And she loves her house. Now, tell me exactly how you surmised she has a chip on her shoulder. She is only confirming what most of us already know: 1) informal is not a great system and 2) all kinds of sorority girls forget to check their white privilege. You should be ashamed. And to the woman of color who persevered, thank goodness you have such a positive outcome and thanks for sharing. Mizzou sorority life is open to all, even though many of the houses who do informal don't give minorities a chance.

To the OP, I'm not sure my house would take someone who thinks "likely hood" is a thing. But then we don't do informal.
