So the posts on here are kind of scaring me to rush. I’m from oos going in as a transfer freshman and I have a 4.0, involvement in high school, & lots of volunteer hours. I have a couple cousins and aunts that were in sororities at different universities but I don’t really have that many connections at Mizzou. What do you think are the chances of me getting a bid?

I would ignore much of what is posted here, and go into it with a positive attitude and open mind...

I also am from out of state and knew NO ONE when I went through recruitment. I actually think I had an advantage because no one had some random high school grudge against me and I was able to create my own, real first impression. I did really well and felt that I was given a chance at each and every house. I would recommend going through formal rush in August because it's the only way to see every house. The sororities that participate in informal traditionally are not the best. One more thing. College is a time to do what you want and follow your heart. If your post truly is sincere, you should stop caring what others have to say and forge your own path.

You saying the houses going through Informal are "not the best" is one of the reasons there are so many lies and misperceptions.

Mizzou enjoys an EXCELLENT sorority system, no matter what house you got into "Got for it".

The system is fine, but some of the houses are weak. They are the ones who always have to COB. I don't think it's in anyone's best interest to lie about this, even if the truth hurts. There is a reason they constantly have to be recruiting new members.

Do you not understand that every single house here COULD USE extra girls, ie COB. Whether a house chooses to or not, it's a purposeful decision that is made by that individual house, not one house is ever "forced" to COB. This is exactly why you'll see top tier houses COBing... You can go on and on about "retention issues" while it was actually ChiO who lost the most girls last year and I don't believe they participated while houses who lost less girls did. It's preference, maybe if you actually belonged to a greek org you would be able to understand that.

If a house is so financially week that it must replace each and every girl who leaves/drops out/flunks out/studies abroad etc., I would stay far, far away. Some houses COB all the time. Not a good thing.

None of our houses are hurting financially... Mizzou's weakest houses are stronger than the good chapters at most schools (financially.)

who wrote about their house "never needing to COB." it's in quotes but I can't find anyone who said that. I would be interested in a house that never needs to COB, but which is it? I mean, if it's in quotes someone did right?

All houses have COB'ed at least once in the past 5-6 years, but some have done it just once or twice. That's because the top houses don't have many girls who drop because they are extremely proud of their letters. They also are the houses with strict grade standards so their members really don't ever flunk out. I think the better question is which houses COB just about every semester, and that list is easier to quantify. I don't want to go into specifics here because that's really not fair, but just check the Greek Life stats and you will see the houses that have new members listed for second semester year after year after year. I would stay away from those houses.

As a special ed major, I find it offensive that someone uses the word
"retarded" at all, much less in a way that has such a negative connotation. I can't believe an educated college student would use that word.
