rush
by: LoloI went through formal rush and worked all week to have my spot on the list of each house throughout the week. I decided to choose 1 house during preference round which I didn’t know dropped you to the bottom of the list. So I worked all week for nothing. Thank you pha. Taking 1200 girls and cutting 500+. Not cool.

Sorry but no, listing one house after preference round doesn’t drop you to the bottom of the list, it only prevents you from being a quota addition. Unfortunately you weren’t high enough on the chapter’s bid list to match before quota was met, and if you had maximized your options the system would’ve either matched you with your 2nd chapter or added you onto the end of either bid list as a quota addition. Your pi chi may have not explained that in depth, but I can almost gaurentee they advised against only listing only one chapter. This isn’t pha’s fault, and I promise you more girls choose to release themselves from recruitment than are dropped by all chapters. By single intention preferencing you agreed that you would rather not be Greek if you didn’t get a bid from that one chapter. Try not to be bitter, you can always go through recruitment as a sophomore. The good thing is Greek life is only one part of Mizzou, and you can get invovled in so many other organizations! Right now it may seem super important to be in Greek life since recruitment just ended, but it really isn’t.

You got exactly what you chose: to either be a member of just one house or to not be greek at all. That's the decision you made. This is an excellent time to remind people about an ultimatum, which, in effect, is the decision you made. You should never make an ultimatum unless you can be satisfied with either choice -- in your case, wither being a member of one specific house or not being greek at all. Those were the only two possible outcomes. In a relationship, an ultimatum might be forcing someone to chose to not smoke or not be with you, for example. It's a difficult lesson, but this also is a good time to stop blaming others for your own decision. Welcome to college, where growing up and using good judgment is perhaps the most important lesson you can ever learn.

Important lesson here...read the rules thoroughly, ask questions and be sure you are well-informed and understand all of the consequences before making decisions that go against the recommendations from experienced advisors.
Unfortunately you had to learn this one the hard way...sometimes you DON'T know better than the system or the people who are advising you.

Sounds like you are just a bit entitled, that you expected everyone else had to follow the rules but you didn't have to.
Get that chip off your shoulder and adjust that attitude. And then work on your grades, get involved on campus, and try following the rules if you decide to go thru recruitment again.

It does suck that 500 girls did not find a place in a house, but part of the blame for that has to come back on websites like this one that constantly rank, criticize, and tear down houses that aren’t “desirable” to whoever posts on here. If there was not such a negative view of some of the smaller houses, maybe they would have a chance to pick up some of the girls who otherwise drop because they don’t want to be in what is considered a “lower tier” house on this website.

You should be happy. You got exactly what you wanted. The only house you preffed had you so far down on their list (they don't see how YOU rank, they rank you independently) that they reached quota before they got to your name. That means that if you had ranked both houses, you probably would have gotten a bid to the other one. Which YOU DIDN'T WANT. Remember? So this saved you from getting that house. So now, if you still want to be greek, COB -- there are lots of nice houses COBing. Or you can go through formal next year and hope to make a better impression. Good luck!!
#9by: Well...
The "ranks" and "tiers" aren't for confident women, but are meant to keep the opinions of these houses among PNMs down, when the truth is these houses are trying hard and making strides to improve their grades, leadership and standards
Instead of knocking them down and pigeon-holing them, we as a Greek system should be helping and encourage them
It would go a LONG way to make our Greek system stronger.

Why is she any more entitled than anyone else? She may THINK she is, but now she knows better.
