time for a new sorority?

by: LeeLee

Is it time we start thinking of adding a new sorority? The biggest issue I can see would be housing.

The current sororities have to get a lot better before more are added. Some existing houses are barely hanging on. Plus the demographics are shifting and as a result fewer women are going through rush.

lmao this dumb troll who constantly insists that our sororities (with even the "worst" sororities having hundreds of actives + waiting lists to get a room) are QUOTE "barely hanging on." But hey, it is dead on here - what would we do without you and your nonsense!

There already are too many sororities and several of them are struggling. I don't think this campus can support any more.

@nope and hardly-

Where the hell do y'all go to school? "Barely hanging on"? "Struggling"? The smallest group has 233 and the largest 275 according to the spring grade report.

Great job commenting and supporting your own post, but anyone who goes here knows that some houses have serious retention issues and have to COB every semester. That's the sign of a weak house. And while you might think 233 is a good number, that's at the end of spring semester and is 40+ fewer than the better houses. At least two or three houses will lose dozens more by the time formal recruitment comes along because their members have flunked out or dropped out and will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel just to make quota. You know that's true and you know who you are.

nah girl sorry we aren't the same posters, we just actually have first hand experience with the very strong greek community at Mizzou. Not a single house is struggling financially ("hanging by a thread") but go ahead and carry on as if you made it into a house with "no retention issues" when you couldn't get a bid to any house at all. That is why you're on here 24/7 writing bitter posts like these^, isn't it?

It is extremely irresponsible to insist that every sorority on this campus is on firm financial footing when you know that's not true. There are several houses that are desperate and take just about anyone just so that they can have more money coming in, and still they are late in paying their bills. Would you like me to name names? I thought not. So stop trying to distract people by saying people who speak the truth are bitter people who couldn't make it into a house, when most of us know better. Why in the world would you want to mislead PNMs that way? Why are you sticking up for houses that have been mismanaged to the point that they are barely hanging on?

ya dude we read it the first time, guess you have no response because you're the same pathetic troll who ruined GR. Hint: as this is your main hobby I'd suggest getting some new material. Maybe something believable so we don't all have to ignore every post you make...

I see someone is NOT ignoring the post.^ What a loser. I'm pretty sure that if we start naming the sororities in financial trouble that "UM's house will be at the top of the list.

There are several, actually. You can tell which ones they are because they have to COB all the time because they have retention issues. They have retention issues because they don't have strict grade cuts and they take girls who struggle academically and often fail and leave school. It's not fair to name names, but generally speaking if you stick with the houses with strict grade standards you will do fine. No one is saying you can't make friends in these houses or that the girls aren't nice. It's just that there is a lot of turnover and people come and go, so they constantly have to be replaced. Sorry, but it's true.

Delta Zeta has been coming to MU's campus for years and years trying to get a house here and it's not going to happen. They have put money behind this effort and the SK's here are only SK's and not DZ's because SK already had a house and DZ didn't.

There just isn't room right now. Maybe if a national chapter managed to buy one of the frat houses out from a chapter that got kicked off but I don't think MU would agree to that unless the house was IN Greek Town. Nobody wants a sorority house on frat row.

Sorry, clarification for those who didn't know. SK already had a house meaning they owned a house and were renting to a fraternity after they left campus in the 90's. It was easy to just take that house back as opposed to having to buy out a revamp an entirely new house.

That would be a big financial expense to any new NPC org. Many of them have already committed to expansion at other schools and probably will not happen for another 4-5 years if that. Also keep in mind, we are heading into a new decade and a new generation (Gen Z) which is reported to be less in numbers (roughly 10 million less) compared to the the Millennial Generation (Gen Y). So we maybe heading into another rush recession like in the 1990's. I know think any new NPC will invest time and money if the enrollment & quota at UMizzou starts dropping.
