sorority gpa questions

by: sporting

1. Which houses cut for GPA in first round (or even before recruitment begins)?

2. Does anyone know what the approximate cutoffs are for those houses? Are they close to the chapter or NM first semester GPAs?

3. The PHA site says you should have a 3.5/4.0 - is it even worth going through recruitment if you have a 3.3?

4. Do any houses look at weighted GPA, especially if it is much higher than unweighted, when both are on the transcript?

5. Does Mizzou send PHA a core GPA or the ones on the HS transcript?

Thanks!

High school GPA is very important to the quality houses and they make strict grade cuts. Look at the top 8-10 houses based on GPA on the greeklife website and you can assume those houses make strict grade cuts. But there are several houses that struggle to fill their pledge classes and so they aren't nearly as strict because they can't be so picky. I would go through rush with a 3.3 GPA but only if you accept the fact that the best houses will cut you. Just don't take it personally because it's not about your personality. Also, I would get as many recs as possible and if there is a reason for such a low GPA the person filling out the rec can explain why. Weighted GPA's definitely count. In fact in our pledge class two years ago the average GPA was above 4.0 weighted.

Here's the secret to recruitment. The top houses are the top houses because they are extremely selective and have high standards. They know exactly what they are looking for, and get it. A music major for skits or singing competitions? Yup. A couple of athletic stars for intramurals? Got 'em. A beauty or two who can be queen candidates? Sure. Oh, and by the way they all have to be AP Scholars, be attractive and have engaging personalities. The middle houses get many of the girls they want/need, but often lose out to some of the top houses. And the rest of the sororities get what's left, assuming the girls haven't quit because they were rejected by their dream houses. That, in a nutshell, is how it works. But because most of the girls who go through rush have something special to offer and are pretty great, most sororities wind up with some terrific girls and every single house offers the potential for lifelong friendship (unless it is one of those few houses with SERIOUS retention issues). So give it a try. You might not be asked back to the top houses, but you can still find a place where you can be extremely happy. What have you got to lose?

The most "selective" houses still have a bunch of losers, get your head out of your ass

Every house has losers and every house has winners. The point of my post is that most of the girls who go through recruitment have something special to offer and most can find a place where they feel comfortable and happy. Did you read it? What's your problem^?
