by: SophomoreI'm thinking of rushing, but I was wondering if all the sororities are Christian based, I know some are. Any input?

None of the PHA Sororities are Christian based. However in a house of 300+ girls it is IMPOSSIBLE not to find somebody with your same beliefs. My house has a group of girls that go to church together every Sunday and we even started a bible study together. So while they are Christian based per say, you will not have a hard time getting your daily dose of the Lord in whatever house you choose.

many sororities have Bible study groups! Many of them also get together with other houses to have larger groups where you can get to know people outside your chapter. I know for a fact that Kappa Kappa Gamma does this, and Alpha Chi Omega has one with Theta Chi. Pretty sure Kappa Delta has one too...

HI!
So, there are many girls in sororities who are "Catholic" or "Lutheran" but, it is SO hard to hold onto your faith in the Greek system unless you are very proactive about your faith. Personally, my house is not one with a bible study and this last year was very difficult for me to find Christian friends. AXO has some very strong Christian women. I think Theta has a bible study, but I'm not sure. So, while all houses were probably rooted in Christian beliefs when they were founded, those beliefs, morals, and standards are rare to find within the Greek system at Mizzou. I love my sisters more than anything, but if you are not strong and rooted in your faith now, I would not recommend rushing this summer. That being said, take the first semester to focus on grades, be very involved, make friends who are Greek, and focus on your relationship with God. If it's still something you want to do, COB. Almost every house does it anyways, there's nothing wrong with it. If you don't want to COB, rush as a sophomore. It's a little harder but get in house recs. BUT, if you feel like your relationship with God is strong enough to go through some tests, rush this summer. Going Greek is one of the best choices I've ever made, but not spiritually.

College is all about expanding your horizons. If you are looking for people who are just like you, you might as well stay home (no matter what your beliefs). But if your are looking to become more worldly and less judmental, going away to college is the thing to do. Of course keep your beliefs intact if you'd like. Of course go to church on Sunday if that's what you want to do. But if you choose to stay within your small little world and miss this opportunity to learn about other cultures, religions, beliefs, lifestyles, then you really aren't expanding your horizons at all. The worst thing is to finish your four years as exactly the same person who entered college. That means you haven't grown at all. Do yourself a favor and open your mind to new possibilities.

I know none discriminate based on faith officially, but don't a lot of the sororities have Christian basis in their rituals? Most of the IFC fraternities have Christian and Masonic origins, so I'd be surprised if none of the PHC sororities were founded with Christianity as a basis.
