make a difference!

As an in-coming freshmen, I made the decision to pledge of the more popular fraternities. Though my fraternity experience has had many high and low points, I am so grateful I choose to join. Among the low points...my fraternity hazes, and I was hazed. However, I do not haze and I am definitely vocal in my opposition to hazing. Now I want to make it very clear that I am not intending to incriminate my fraternity or my brothers, but to raise awareness about hazing and promote the positive aspects of the fraternal movement. For those of you who question how hazing can continue to exist, I hope you understand just how much alcohol contributes to the unhealthy Greek environment here. I know that there are fraternity members who realize this; so I strongly urge other fraternity men to use the power of their voice to address this issue in their own house. Sure, there will be those who disagree with your opinion, but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are doing the right thing. Stand up for what is right. Though it may seem like your voice is just one among many, your words can start a movement that resonates throughout. I hope that other men find the internal courage to face injustice head on and lend their voice to the hazing prevention movement in whatever way seems most prudent and impacting to them. The future of our organizations depends on us doing just that.
