did you find your forever home?
by: QuizSo we talk a lot about “trusting the system” and if you do you’ll “find your home”. But is it true? New members - now that you’re in, how happy are you? Did the system work? Or is it really better to trust your gut and drop if you’re not getting asked back to the house you want?

I’m in a top house and it was my top choice all through recruitment, and I was super psyched to get a bid. A year and a half on and...it’s kind of meh. I am in a clique of nice girls but our house is made up of lots of cliques and it’s hard to connect outside of your own little group. I wonder if I would have been happier at a lower tier house where there wasn’t as much division.

I had two houses i didn't like and that are considered bottom and i dropped. i rushed again as a sophomore and got a house i liked and that I now love. i think all the crap about just going for what you get is bad advice. if you don't want to be there, you're going to know after all the rush rounds and knowing the reputations so why waste the time and money.

For me the system worked perfectly. I was thrilled with how recruitment went and was left with two top tier houses and a middle tier house. I could only see myself in one place and they agreed. I suicided a top house and have felt at home there from the first moment. I didn't trust the system as much as I trusted myself.

It's a very personal decision and there were few houses I absolutely would not have joined. Luckily I ended up with three good choices and went with my gut. I got my first choice and while it's not a house that people swoon over on this website, it's a good house nevertheless. The most important thing is that it's where I felt most comfortable from the first day and I trusted myself when that little voice said it's where I belong. So, yes, the system worked for me.

The system failed for me. I transferred in as a junior so I was left with 2 houses after open round. They were the "bottom" houses that I really didn't enjoy going to during recruitment. I chose the one that I thought would be the best choice for me and I was ecstatic that I actually got into a house until I met the girls I would be calling my sisters. Many of the girls were mean and thought they were better than the rest of us, but I figured that was natural for some people. I have never felt welcome in this sorority and living in house has caused a lot of unnecessary anxiety. All in all, I do not agree with what my sorority has become, but I do feel as though I found a (small) group of women that I can call my friends for a very long time. I often wonder what house I would be in if I had only rushed as a freshman. I do not regret rushing as a junior, but I still question the system.

I personally just feel that Mizzou's sororities are too big. I rushed and ended up in a middle tier house, and I do love my house. However I joined a sorority in hopes of finding my place at a HUGE school, and I don't know that it helped that much. I envisioned getting super involved in my sorority but I'm not a part of the 'popular' girls who will be on exec in my pledge class, so I'm still kind of an outsider. I love my friends and I can get along with pretty much everyone in my house, but it's not at all like i joined and all of a sudden had this close knit group.

Makes you think twice that maybe top tier isn't necessarily all that it is cracked up to be, doesn't it?
