joining a sorority
by: ToBeGreekOrNotToBeI'm a freshman, considering joining Tri Sigma. I'll be honest, I'm not tall skinny and blonde. I like to think I'm nice, funny, and have decent fashion sense though. One of the reasons I'm going to Tri Sigma, is quite frankly because I think I have a chance of getting in there. I want to meet more people, and be involved on campus, so I'm thinking Greek is the best way to go for that. But then I come on here, and see all the rankings and posts that are so negative towards Tri Sigma, and I'm wondering, is it better to stay a GDI, or go Tri Sigma in your guys' opinions? Or should I try for another sorority?

I think you're joining a sorority for the wrong reason. Tri-Sigma is a wonderful group of women, and while yes some may not see them as the most popular bunch you shouldn't be trying to get into Tri-Sigma because you "think you have a shot" but because you like the girls. Same with any house.
I think if you are going through Recruitment you need to keep an open mind and try your hardest with ALL the houses. Find the one you like. And if you're only joining a house to be greek then you are better off being Non-Greek because people like that do not fare well in sororities. They are a time and money commitment and you need to like the group you're with to make it worth it all. Dead weight isn't appreciated in ANY house.

SIgma is the worst house on campus, but if you don't care about ranks and reputations then you should be fine! I think most girls run into being judged negatively by their friends in other houses and are ultimately pressured to just drop. It happened to me in another house, but I stuck with it and my house is doing fine now! you just have to keep your head up and ignore the negative nancy's. You'll make friends in any house.

Do you like the sigma girls and can you see yourself being friends with them? Can you afford their costs? (since they're struggling so much their dues & housing costs are ridiculously high)
If so, join Tri sigma. If you don't feel comfortable there, re-rush. It's that simple

I think sororities have a reputation for only giving bids to the tall, skinny, blonde girls, like you said. But that definitely isn't true!! If I were you, I would go through formal recruitment this upcoming fall so you can get a feel for all of the sororities. You may still really like Trisigma or you may find that you fit in at a different house! But this way you are giving all the sororities on campus a fair chance! Trisigma is a great house but it is not for everyone (just like any house on this campus) so it would be a bummer to realize Trisigma isn't the house for you after it is too late because you didn't give any of the other ones a chance! And if you still really like Trisigma throughout rush week then you can be really confident in your decision to be a Trisigma!I hope this helps!
