sorority rush as a junior?

by:

Hey everyone! I am thinking about rushing as a junior and I was wondering if you could possibly share some tips on what I should expect during rush week, and what my chances are of getting in? Thanks!

Some houses will cut you on your age but as long as they like you and you have good grades most should ask you back. I got asked back to Kappa on Wednesday despite being a junior with just average grades. So just be bubbly, outgoing and get your GPA and involvement as high and diverse as you can. Sisterhood isn't about how old you are, it's about how well you fit the group of girls :)

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why such a preference is always given to freshmen during recruitment? I rushed as a junior transfer student and really would have loved to have gotten involved in greek life :(

Sororities like having girls all four years because it gives them time to get the girls invested. But like I said it's not impossible to get a bid as a junior. You just have to show that you are ready to throw yourself and that you're excited to join their group. Some houses may cut you based on age but I'll be the first to say that the house I joined didn't care how old I was, they cared that I was passionate and eager to join.

I really wouldn't worry about it as long as your grades and enthusiasm are both high :)

That's what I can't figure out...I was involved at my last university, and in high school, and my grades were above a 3.5. I made it clear I was really excited about greek life and wanted to get as involved as possible, and would love to take on a leadership role if there was any sort of opening for that. I even had a rec from one of my best friends who is a DG at UK (I know they mean more coming from an alum). I was myself during recruitment and felt like I clicked with the girls I spoke with at several houses. I really tried to keep an open mind and had the attitude that whatever house that picked me would be where I belonged. All I can think of is that maybe I should have told them I will be at Mizzou for at least the next two years (because I transferred and I have yet to complete all of my journalism courses). I don't mean to sound like I'm whining...I was just really disappointed that no one seemed to see me as a future sister.

At this point I think you've got two options. One would be rush again in the Fall and show the sororities how you've become involved at MU. Make SURE you mention that you'll be here awhile and again, try to impress them. Or you could wait until next Spring semester for COB.

There's always the option to do a service sorority which isn't as social as PHA sororities, but if you're really into service it's a great option plus they usually do mixers and social functions. Just not as many as greek life. Also talk to your friends in greek life if you've got any in sororities and maybe ask what they would recommend. I know some houses will even take seniors if they like them enough. Stay positive and check out all your options.

COB might be your best bet. If I'm not mistaken SK might be COBing still, Phi Mu might and a few others. Ask around, you might still be able to COB for this semester if you act fast :)

Sigma Kappa is would probably take Juniors because almost their entire colony class is freshman and they need older girls! They are still COBing as far as I know. I don't think they will be for very long though, so try to act fast!

I agree, Sigma Kappa took a lot of transfer students in their colony class and would probably take more because they need older girls. Like the person above said, act FAST because they're almost done. My roomie is an SK and she said you need to get on it NOW.

Kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I also rushed SK...and didn't get a bid (not embarrassed that I rushed SK but that I wasn't offered a bid). And I am currently taking spring semester off so I won't be able to COB...maybe I could next year? Anyways I really appreciate all of the advice! Hope everyone's semester is going well :)

Ugh, the calendar year rule is the worst. I'm not sure what your best option would be at this point :/

Hi! I'm a transfer as junior! I've always liked the thought of joining a sorority but unfortunately my school for the first two years did not have greek life. I'm thinking about joining one now because I feel like I will regret never being part of one later on. I know my options can be slim because of my age but I think it's worth a shot! So I was wondering if you can give me your opinion on what houses might take me? Or what you think is the best option for me to do at this point as a junior?
