DO we have particulars on both fraternities as to why? What Happen?

By: WHAT????
by: OMG

That's not good for Delts, especially when they just leased DU house. As for Sig Ep, they probably violated their Dry House-Balance Man Program that their National is making every chapter follow going forward.

Unfortunately, we have men who joined the chapter for the wrong reasons. Regular sanctions involving dangerous behavior must stop. SigEp brothers must be committed to living our values as expressed in the Ritual and to developing each member through the Balanced Man Program. We're falling short on both expectations.

Cartman says " SigEp brothers must be committed to living our values as expressed in the Ritual and to developing each member through the Balanced Man Program. We're falling short on both expectations." My fraternity has pretty impressive and awesome values to inspire and guide them, and I'd assume that to be true of the other fraternities here. I know I and my brothers fall short of living up to our values and often don't even consider them when planning various activities. Too often, Mizzou Greek Life exhibits a "frat mentality" as opposed to a "fraternity mentality". Fraternity men aspire to developing character while frat men tend to drink away aspiration for developing character or aspiring to sound values. Until Mizzou Greek men chose to belong to fraternities instead of frats, a majority will fall short on a commitment to living up to values and developing character. Until there is a real and serious effort to live the core values of our various fraternities, we'll not be fraternity men but frat guys who belong to houses that are going to continue to be put on probation, suspended, or totally kicked off campus.

Lol this is just a rumor delts aren't kicked off!!

Just a rumor? Really? I'm so shocked!
If it weren't for rumors and nasty, malicious, jealousy motivated posts, Greek Rank wouldn't even exist. The few posts that attempt to deal with topics and issues of substance are too soon overshadowed by petty bickering and posturing for "tier status" or gossiping and about which fraternities are currently in trouble.

The concept of pledging is counterproductive to a brother’s experience because it limits his abilities to participate or contribute to the chapter from day one. Restricting the rights of our brothers hinders growth and ultimately doesn’t challenge them to reach their full potential. There can be no tolerance among Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers for behaviors or actions that violate any definition of hazing.

This is really commendable and worthy of respect. However, just like several fraternities who have strong national/international headquarter policies regarding hazing, drinking and dry-house, etc., often it's on paper and sounds good in theory but doesn't get translated into universal practice among chapters. All of us have become pretty good at attempting to pay lip-service to our nationals/internationals while covering up our own "business as usual", be that hazing or drinking. We're all a part of the Mizzou Greek culture and way of doing things, so it's unlikely that any of us fraternity men would try to be so very different from the other frats on campus.

What are the benefits and detriments of the Balanced Man Program?

We don't do pledging - you're automatically a brother. Still responsibilities and bonding events but you'll never be a pledge.

The SigEp man is a renaissance man. He is internally motivated to succeed both professionally and academically. He maintains high standards for himself and his brothers in all aspects of his life. Success-driven, cultured, charismatic, generous, and athletic are just a few words we can use to describe such an individual. A primary goal of the recruitment committee is to market to and recruit the highest quality individuals to lead the campus community.

No matter what the Sig Ep rules are, its members are still douchhbags. And it has nothing to do with pledging.

Not sure Sig Ep could survive another membership review and keep their house.

Membership Reviews are death sentences to a chapter(s). Might as well surrender the charter instead of going through that.

Membership reviews are a great way to get rid of the dead wood in a house. Specifically the guys trying to live out Animal House. These are the guys that end up getting you in trouble with Hazing and alcohol. You can still do pledging and be a fraternity without reducing everything to some sort of dare. If you don't have guys that are willing to get with the program, then find some that will.

Even though membership reviews kick out the problem guys, the remaining guys sometimes feel sympathetic losing the guys(s) they bonded with, therefore, many of them decide to quit or go inactive. It's a roll of the dice whether a chapter can recover or just die. No matter how you look at it, it's still a death sentence to a chapter.

Abundant past experience has demonstrated that a successful recolonization starts with a clean slate of new members who have no preconceived notions about the Chapter and have no attraction to unhealthy paradigms of stereotypical fraternity life.

Recolonizations are only successful when the previous chapter had been closed for a while (5-10 years) and the national can recruit all new guys, not affiliated with the previous chapter, so they (national) can mole them (recruits) into the brotherhood the want to represent. Re-organization after a membership review is usually a hit or miss. It will depend on the loyality and dedication the remaining guys will have in making the chapter successful.

Membership reviews rarely work because the process is seen by brothers to be arbitrary, even corrupt. And after it's done, there's fewer guys to share the big bills. They get screwed financially.

OK, but membership reviews and audits don't cost nationals much money - basically just travel and food costs for some national staff and other volunteers.

SigEp is moving forward rather than clinging to the past. It's a shame the former brothers couldn't live up to standards. If they did, they would have been winning awards, networking with alumni volunteers and industry leaders, and getting showered with donations to renovate the chapter house. Instead they chose to fail. It's really that simple.

What they (Sig Ep) wanted to do is turn the chapter into a "Party/Drinking" club, instead of a fraternity that promotes scholarship, Philanthropy, Health/Wellness for Brothers & a strong Alumni?University relations. So basically they were heading for destruction.

"It is clear from conversations with the chapter leaders that we have members in the chapter who did not join for the right reasons and are opposed to making the necessary changes. Those members need to be removed if the chapter is going to be successful as the most valued student organization on campus. We are working with the Alumni Volunteer Corporation and its Mentorship Committee to determine if the chapter leaders are able to make those tough decisions themselves or it they need outside support to remove members."

They’re both irrelevant anyway. Spreading rumors for attention won’t make them any better.
