informal rush help

by: ok

How does informal rush work? I wasn't sure if I should I do informal rush next semester or go through formal recruitment as a sophomore next fall. Do houses discriminate/frown upon sophomores going through formal recruitment or is it still possible to get into a solid house that way? Idk which way one would be better

First off, are you trying to rush a sorority or fraternity? Because their rush processes could not be anymore different.

Wait until end of semester: by then half the zeta class will drop. Happens every year like clockwork!

That certainly isn't true. Just ignore the Alpha Phi troll. And remember her house is near the bottom in retention.

Oh come on, it was pretty funny!

zeta if you don't like your reputation maybe you shouldn't treat your new members nicer this year so you don't end up COBing 3x again this year.

Five houses are currently participating in informal recruitment: DG, ZTA, G Phi, KD and SK

Go to the Mizzou PHA recruitment website for more info.

SO once you sign up for informal rush, what happens next? Will this be something that happens soon?

Keep in mind 4 things:
1. Informal rush is kind of sketchy. You can sign up and never hear from any house. That's because the types of houses that do informal are also the types of houses that just take friends of current members instead of reaching for the best girls available.
2. Be forewarned that because houses are not obligated to invite informal rushees to events, there is a huge potential for discrimination.
3. Houses that cut you during formal rush likely won't consider you
4. Rushing as a sophomore reduces the number of houses that might be interested, but between now and then you can work on your grades, work on your involvement and work on making good friends in the dorm so that you might not even want to rush.

2 more houses have been added to this list, Alpha Phi and Pi Phi. I agree with what the previous poster said about the 4 things to keep in mind, but this seems more than usual and an interesting mix of houses too. Don't know if houses didn't make quota or lots of girls dropped after bid day, but with nearly half our houses participating in informal you may have a better shot this year.

Houses go through informal if their nationals allow them to accept more girls than PHA had allowed during recruitment. Every house made quota this year so it has nothing to do with that.

By all means sign up for informal, but don't take it personally if you are never contacted. Informal is a strange thing and most houses are too lazy to meet with all the girls who are interested. They just take their friends instead.

Sorry if this maybe has been asked and answered already. Does kappa or pi phi ever do informal rush such as cob etc.? Thanks for suggestions.
