informal rush (fraternities)
by: missedformalWhat is informal rush like for fraternities? I missed the rush events during the summer since I'm from out of state but I still want to rush a fraternity for the fall semester.

It is basically getting a lot of contact information such as emails and numbers. I would start looking at fraternity websites for Rush Chair numbers (what I did). Facebook or Twitter accounts can sometime have some rush info as well. At the time, I found rush chairs from Phi Kapp, Delt, SAE for example... And got bids from all three eventually from going to their house with them or out to a bar with some of the guys.
Cons- The negative side for doing informal rush is you might not get to see all the houses; houses could be done recruiting and/or are full. You would be a spring pledge, and usually in the spring they are only looking for freshman, but every house is different.
Pros- The advantage(s) of doing informal rush; you get to choose which houses you want to see versus being forced to look at houses you were given to look at during formal rush. Also, not as competitive because there are less guys that rush in the Spring, so the chances you get a bid can be a bit higher, but it really just depends on you being yourself and what the fraternity wants.
Either way how you want to look at it, when rush is done it doesn't really matter when you join a house afterwards. Hope this helps
