strongest sororities nationally?

What would you guys say are the strongest sororities on a national level?
The weakest?

The top 5 sorority nationals, in no particular order, are Theta, ChiO, PiPhi, Delta and ADPi. This s based on endowmen and support they offer their local chapters. You can usually tell a strong national because 1) they have been on major land-grant campuses for decades and decades and, in many cases, more than 100 years 2) they don't let their actives live in substandard residences 3) they have alumni input and support, which is extremely apparent during rush when high standards are set 4) they don't care very much about colonizing on smaller campuses because it's all about quality, not quantity and 5) they don't have chapters that come and go. Once they are on a campus they are there to stay and maintain a quality presence. The ranking of a chapter may vary from state-to-state and campus-to-campus, but the chapter's strength doesn't waver because of it's strong support from nationals/alums.

The Edgewater Conference means nothing! Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Phi, Delta Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta, Alpha Xi Delta, Chi Omega, Sigma Kappa, and Alpha Omicron Pi joined NPC prior to 1909. Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Alpha Delta Pi joined in 1909. And the so called "Big Three" also have their fair share of train wreck chapters. Just google Kappa at UConn (kicked off!) Theta at KU (social media disaster!) or Pi Phi at Miami of Ohio, Duke or University of NV-Reno (nightmares!) Bottom line - there are 26 NPC sororities. If any one or two were so superior, the other 24 wouldn't exist. It's about finding the best fit for YOU at YOUR university. Best of luck!

It just depends on your criteria. Money drives it (as it does with most things in life). The more money a national organization has the more man power, more chapters and more success. Chi O might have the most chapters (quantity) but that's because they never close struggling chapters--- decrease in quality. KD and Phi Mu do dominate the south, but that doesn't mean they just suck everywhere else. Both have solid chapters in the northeast and ivy league schools. Say what you want about schools that are "southern" sororities, but thats where most greeks are. Greek life is nowhere as strong or prestigious as the SEC.
Alpha Phi, DG, DZ all have strong presence nationally in that most people have heard of them. Chapters like pi phi and theta are strong sparatically, but go to any SEC school and they're nothing to brag about.
ADPi and Phi Mu started it all in 1851 and 1852. They are the reason for the rest, have the longest traditions and strongest status. Despite where they actually fall nationally, they are both very similar and are typically considered powerhouses at most universities and nationally. They both have a great reputation and are known for being values-based.
For me it's : Chi O, ADPi, APhi, KD, DG, Phi Mu, & Tri Delt BUT....
Ultimately YOU decide which organization is the strongest because you decide which one you BELIEVE the most in. If you join for "status" instead of values you'll never really grasp the point.

OK, hasn't this topic been beaten to death?? Sororities vary DRAMATICALLY by region. For example, Delta may be very good in the South, but at big schools like Colorado, Kansas, etc. they are a joke. KD is good in the south but not very strong in other areas. GPhi is mediocre at schools like Georgia & Auburn but completely rules in S. CA and at Big 10 & Big 12 schools like Wisconsin, KU, OK State, etc. Phi MU is extremely popular in the south but virtually unheard of elsewhere. For a real list, go to the "Home" section of this site. It will show you lists of the largest Panhellenic sororities. Typically, the larger they are, the stronger their alumni support is. BOTTOM LINE: Would you join a sorority here at Mizzou just because they happen to be "top" at the U. of Oregon or not join a house because they "suck" at LSU?? NO, what matters is the sisterhood, experiences & friendships YOU have at YOUR university.

Gphi isn't really strong at many places...especially in the south. Their national reputation isn't very strong either. Half the girls don't even know what their philanthropy is besides Girls on the Run, and that's a 5k run sponsored by public school systems so how is that even a real philanthropy. I appreciate their efforts in building up young girls' self esteem because it does make a difference, but Make A Wish and Breast Cancer Research just appeals nationwide to more people as a philanthropy people would want to donate to.
