once and for all
by: Here'sTheTruthIn the past year I probably have posted positive things about most of the sororities at Mizzou. The brainpower of Theta, the friendliness of Phi Mu, the improvements of DG, the high standards of PiPhi, the historic beauty of ADPi's house, etc. And, no, I'm not a member of any of those houses. In fact, I would NEVER post anything about my own house because I prefer to remain anonymous. So let's all get over the fact that if something positive is said about a house, it has to have been by a member. That's total c rap and most people know it. And when a post has hundreds of views and dozens of responses, you can be sure they're from lots of people.

I think the constant negativity and people thinking that if something positive is being said about a chapter it's "self ranking" makes our Greek system look really bad. When I was a pnm I somehow stumbled upon this and saw people just being absolutely cruel and it made me question what Greek life at Mizzou was really like. Obviously I went through recruitment and found a chapter that I love but I was hesitant at first. I never post anything negative on here because 1) there's absolutely no need to be intentionally rude and hurtful and 2) a great PNM could see it and not want to go greek because they're afraid all the people in the Greek system are filled with the negativity and ruthlessness to make their house look like a "top house." It's our job as Greeks to make all of Greek life look good so people will want to join and support us.

What's amazing to me is the total lack of substance in any of these discussions. You would think many of the people posting here would be past the HS crap of constantly demeaning other houses. During my time at Mizzou, I had great times with every so called "tier" of house. I was a member of a rising "mid tier" house that excelled at homecoming and Greek week. We hung with so called top tier sororities because they wanted to win and "lower tiered" sororities because we lost out to other fraternities. Every time I catorgized a house before I met them, I was wrong. All of you would do better to share what is going right, community involvement, new construction, best practices, etc. and address challenges like outside perceptions, ridiculously dangerous drinking (I drink so I don't care if people drink, but watching people beer bong vodka is over the top). The investment alumni have made back to the university and The Greek system is staggering. At last check, almost half of all Greek organizations have embarked on multi million dollar remodles or new houses. This year, over $20 million of brand new Greek houseing is coming online. This is a nice forum to start showing people you are serious about dealing with challenges, because, unfortunately, when parents or Alumni Google search a particular house at Mizzou, this page is the 1st impression.
