questions about rush
by: Mizzou boundHi all. Plan to rush and am scared to death honestly. I am coming from a small school in northwest mo and am the only one from my hs going to mu. My question is about drop rates. I have heard stories about not making iit in any house if you are not a legacy. I plan to keep an open mind. I have really good grades and was very active in hs. Specifically if anyone could speak of kappa kappa gamma. delta gamma and the delta delta delta houses that would be great. Thanks for your time. Also if anyone knows of any other sites to check out for rush and rush info besides the mu one-I would appreciate the name. Have a great day!

In most houses, being a legacy hardly matters. They could fill two or three entire pledge classes just with legacies and they would never do that. So you just have to bring your A game, look and do your best, keep the conversation flowing and act like you are enjoying the process. I don't think being from a small town will hurt you any more than being from out of state. And there are some houses that love small-town girls and out of starters. Those houses usually are better than the houses that get all excited about what high school you went to in St. Louis. In fact, I think it's sometimes better that you don't know anyone when you go through rush because then no one can speak out against you during cut sessions. Someone posted a short time ago that before rush you need to think about how important Greek life is to you, and whether you would be willing to accept a bid to a not-as-popular house if it came to that. Spend some time thinking about that and talking with parents or friends who have been in sororities. Then figure out how you feel about it, because you might have to make that choice (ANYONE might have to make that choice, actually).

My chapter cares about legacies but we won't keep them for the fact they're a legacy; everyone has to earn their spot during recruitment. Honestly, I think that's the way it should be so that you can end up in the house that's meant for you, not your mom or grandma who sat there 30 years ago. Try to get rec letters though so the houses have a better understanding of who you are and include on the brief resume you submit any volunteer work you do! Don't be afraid to put all your best qualities forward! Also remember, sometimes it's the house you least expect to like that you do so every single round keep an open mind!

No reason to be scared. It will either work out or it won't, and from what you've said there is no reason to think you won't be a part of the greek community. But even if things do go as you are hoping, you still are a smart woman starting your next adventure. That can be special no matter where you live as long as you embrace all the possibilities. This is a great school and you made a terrific choice to attend. Keep an open mind and have fun!

Keep an open mind as you go through recruitment.
If you go into recruitment with your heart set on certain houses, you will likely be disappointed.
There are 15 great sorority houses to choose from. Don't sell yourself short by limiting your options before you get to Mizzou.

In other words, your house DOESN'T care about legacies.
