money woes
by: $$$$$$I have heard that there are a few houses who are not doing well financially, in part because they don't screen PNMs (via recs) to see if they can afford being in a sorority. As a result lots of girls drop and the houses really need their dues and can't always make up the difference via COB. Supposedly DG, APhi and SK are among them. True?

I don't know about those three houses, but I have heard that a big reason houses COB and do spring rush is because they need the money and for most of them it is easier to get quality girls with COB than when they have to compete against the top houses in August. My house makes recs a priority b ecause one of the questions concerns a PNMs ability to afford a house. We have had alums leave that blank and we consider that a warning sign.

Houses COB for all sorts of reasons: they lose girls because of grades, girls aren't that serious about school and drop out or flunk out, they can't afford the dues, they don't like the sisterhood or aren't proud of their letters. But money can be a factor. That's why the houses that are financial disarray are the same houses that need to COB. And why the best houses don't do it.

I don't know which houses fall into the category of having financial problems, but all the houses do have financial responsibilities that must be met on a monthly basis. PNM's should have a good understanding of what sorority life can cost before going through the recruitment process. In looking at the website to see what the cost factors might be it states the figures used are from 2012! It needs to be updated - the estimates are definitely too low.
