The link above is the recent report about the decrease in enrollment for the 2017-18 school. The University plans to close 3 more dorms. This is not good.
The public university that gave us Melissa “Muscle” Click – and announced open season on student journalists that try to cover social justice warriors – continues to suffer fallout from the November 2015 melee. The University of Missouri is shutting down three dorms next year because of low freshman enrollment, The Maneater reports.
Technically they are being taken “offline” to see if enrollment bumps back up, and “most or all” staff will keep their jobs, Residential Life Director Frankie Minor said in an email obtained by the paper:
“Historically every year between now and August, various situations occur that result in position openings, e.g. normal attrition and voluntary staff choices, as well as unplanned academic or personal challenges,” the email said. “If necessary, we will offer alternative employment opportunities at comparable compensation to the remaining staff.”
This is on top of four other dorms that were already scheduled to go “offline” because of plummeting enrollment. Two of them – no joke – are named “Respect” and “Excellence.”
At the last announcement of dorm closure in December, Minor told residence hall leaders that nearly a quarter fewer freshmen than anticipated “signed housing contracts,” The Maneater said.
Minor said in the most recent email the targeted dorms had “higher-than-average utility costs” and their closure will be less disruptive for returning students. Mizzou is also canceling eight “Freshman Interest Groups due to low anticipated demand.”

There are many houses who have been pushing for a smaller quota for years. Now perhaps their dream will come true. It simply isn't right that not all members have a chance to live in the house for at least a year. And the better houses have such high retention that some girls never get to live in. Let's remember it wasn't that long ago that girls got to live in the house for two years because quotas weren't so ridiculously high. Lower quotas may be a problem for houses that can't keep members because they drop out or flunk out. This will separate good houses from bad. Maybe it's time for the houses that are barely hanging on and who have to COB all the time to fail. And perhaps they will start having higher standards so that their members stay in school.

Mizzou screwed itself in 2015, and it's gonna be a while before that turns around. I'm an incoming Freshman and kids in my high school weren't even considering it, or using it as a back up school because of that mess.
I still think it's a good school. Obviously, I am still coming, but the administration needs to figure out how to get people to apply and also try to get back some of the alumni money it lost.

Here is another article regarding the decrease in enrollment at Mizzou for 2017-18. This needs to to turn around in the next 2 years or we will start seeing fraternities and sororities closing for low recruitment if they cannot fill their houses.
