rushing for a sorority my sophomore year?

by: New year, New me.

Currently, I'm a second semester freshmen, I REALLY regret not rushing last semester. I didn't know much about sororities in high school and didn't really look into it during the summer. As the semester progressed I saw how much fun the other girls were having in their soroities and how involved they were. I've joined clubs in attempt to meet new people but I haven't really found my niche and/or a good group of friends. I've been lacking much of a social life this year especially becuase I decided to get an apartment my first year which restricted me from meeting a lot of people. Most of my friends from high school go to different colleges but I decided to go to a large university and not follow everyone else's steps. I really want to rush a sorority in the fall as a sophomore in attempt my college experience 10x better. But I'm also afraid that I won't get a bid due to my year. Is it weird to rush as a sophomore? I've heard that some sororities will cut you if they know you're a sophomore which makes me even more nervous. I know Greek is something I really want to do but I don't want to put all my effort into something if it's not going to work out in the end.

Rush! Lots of girls rushed this past year that were sophomores and got into houses! Just keep your grades safe up and stay involved- that'll help you a ton!

Yes, of course you should rush! As the above poster mentioned, there are many sophomores who participate in formal recruitment and find their forever home :)
The best advice I can give you is to keep an open mind, find rec letters, try to connect w/ girls in houses before recruitment, be sociable/memorable, and finally keep up your grades!

I rushed as a sophomore this year! I got a bid from an "upper-mid/top house" (NOT that tiers matter because they DO NOT WHATSOEVER) but if a house loves you, they'll keep asking you back, regardless of age. I did get cut from quite a few houses for being one year older which is a downer but I promise you everything worked out and I couldn't be happier where I am! I would highly recommend it! If you have any questions just let me know and I gotchu

"all your effort?" It's one week of your life with a possible huge reward at the end. Why would you NOT rush? You know, if you go through life not being willing to take a chance simply because you don't know the outcome ahead of time, you are in for a pretty sad life.
