honest thoughts on sk
by: RatergirlI know they're new, so not many know much about them, including myself, so I want to get everyone involved on this one. I've heard they're bottom tier, what would it take for them to rise? They won the Pomping and philanthropy sections of homecoming this year if I remember correctly. I know a lot of gals who are interested in rushing SK next fall, too. I want everyone's opinions (grades, popularity, looks, etc!) also just tired of hearing tri delt and a phi drama

This obviously has nothing to do with my house but it really blows my mind how all the "bottom tier" houses are amazing at competitions year after year and yet "top tier" houses who barely participate feel they have the right to say these houses are worthless. Tiers obviously aren't based on winning comps but they ARE (or should be) based on have involved sisterhoods that are enthusiastic about the Greek/college/philanthropic communities. That's a title that SK, Phi Mu and Sigma can all boast over houses like the beloved XO and (typically) Pi Phi. If I had to choose between those bottom tier houses and those top tier houses, I'd chose one of the bottom in a heartbeat. Isn't that what Greek life is supposed to be about? Honestly blows my mind.

SK is one of the newer houses, yes, but to say people don't know much about them is a stretch. The seniors at Mizzou now were formally recruited and they have had decent recruitments since then. Everyone on campus this year would know them as a house that everyone should know pretty well. They do the same exact things as every other house

Greek Life is not about pomping or about winning competitions. Greek Life is about lasting sisterhoods and that's where top tier houses do so well. It's partially because they have high standards and choose girls who are in college for the right reason: to get an education. It's also because they choose girls who, for the most part, come from a background where being in a sorority means something and they are in it for the long haul. That's why top tier houses rarely COB and why they have such strong alumni support. Yes, SK, PhiMu and Sigma may be going in the right direction, but ChiO, PiPhi, Theta etc. are just as involved on campus and are just as enthusiastic about their philanthropies and their sisterhood. Plus they have a rich history and reputation that their members want to uphold. In time you will learn that in order to build up your house you don't have to tear down another. There is plenty of room at the top.
