honest thoughts on sk

by: Ratergirl

I know they're new, so not many know much about them, including myself, so I want to get everyone involved on this one. I've heard they're bottom tier, what would it take for them to rise? They won the Pomping and philanthropy sections of homecoming this year if I remember correctly. I know a lot of gals who are interested in rushing SK next fall, too. I want everyone's opinions (grades, popularity, looks, etc!) also just tired of hearing tri delt and a phi drama

This obviously has nothing to do with my house but it really blows my mind how all the "bottom tier" houses are amazing at competitions year after year and yet "top tier" houses who barely participate feel they have the right to say these houses are worthless. Tiers obviously aren't based on winning comps but they ARE (or should be) based on have involved sisterhoods that are enthusiastic about the Greek/college/philanthropic communities. That's a title that SK, Phi Mu and Sigma can all boast over houses like the beloved XO and (typically) Pi Phi. If I had to choose between those bottom tier houses and those top tier houses, I'd chose one of the bottom in a heartbeat. Isn't that what Greek life is supposed to be about? Honestly blows my mind.

Greek Life is not about pomping or about winning competitions. Greek Life is about lasting sisterhoods and that's where top tier houses do so well. It's partially because they have high standards and choose girls who are in college for the right reason: to get an education. It's also because they choose girls who, for the most part, come from a background where being in a sorority means something and they are in it for the long haul. That's why top tier houses rarely COB and why they have such strong alumni support. Yes, SK, PhiMu and Sigma may be going in the right direction, but ChiO, PiPhi, Theta etc. are just as involved on campus and are just as enthusiastic about their philanthropies and their sisterhood. Plus they have a rich history and reputation that their members want to uphold. In time you will learn that in order to build up your house you don't have to tear down another. There is plenty of room at the top.

It's kinda hard to form a tight sisterhood when your grades suck, people drop out and you are constantly getting new members through COBing and informal. But, yea, tell me all about how lower tier sisterhoods are better. And note to Well, yes, people who are serious about their education choose a house with grade cuts and don't drop out of school. Just sayin'. The retention of lower tier houses is pathetic. That's why they are always seeking new members.

Hahahaha. Actually, people who are serious about their education don't rely on their sorority having "strict" grade cuts, they can handle their grades without their sister's help. You ^ sound really insecure.

SK has an excellent start, but remember it has been on this campus twice before, and failed.

SK has already set a strong Foundation. Since installing their chapter they have risen to the top of bottom tier over houses like zeta who are established. Good things coming from this house!

Would disagree that SK is the top of the bottom tier.

SK is one of the newer houses, yes, but to say people don't know much about them is a stretch. The seniors at Mizzou now were formally recruited and they have had decent recruitments since then. Everyone on campus this year would know them as a house that everyone should know pretty well. They do the same exact things as every other house

Every house does the same exact things. Some houses just do them better.

The girls are just pretty annoying honestly. Very cliquey and insecure that they're bottom tier

This isn't true at all? I don't think cliquey is an appropriate word here. Name one sorority whose women wouldn't sit together in a large lecture class. Name one sorority whose women wouldn't hang out as much as possible. Every SK girl ive met has been very accepting and loves meeting new people from other sisterhoods and those not Greek affiliated at all. Every sorority is "cliquey" and it's because they're sisters... it's obvious they're on the bottom because they're so new. They haven't even had a chance to move up.
