sigma kappa seems to have done well
by: CuriousIt looks like from what I've heard Sigma Kappa offered bids to over 200 women. Looks like some other chapters may feel quickly threatened. Heard they had some real hotties and strong members. Thoughts??
#1by: don't
don't go down the sigma rabbit hole now, sigma started strong but then got on these sites looking for positive feedback and only got negativity. Many of the girls were extremely insecure with their new house and reputation so they dropped, which now leaves us with tri sigma standing in dead last in the rankings. My best advice - be proud of yourselves but don't flaunt it until you can hold your ground here for a few years with good grades, high involvement, high retention, and placings in greek competition... otherwise the other houses will eat you alive.
#2by: hmm
threatened? I don't think that's the word to use in this context. the only chapter who MAYBE on the edge of their seats would be tri sigma who didn't make quota and doesn't want to fall to another sorority. every other house is on solid footing (dunno about phi mu, but they've been here long enough now that we know they're here to stay)
anyways, congrats on the new girls. now KEEP them, keep them having fun and busy making connections with other greeks. keep getting your name out there, it will be a rough start, but if you gain respect like the poster above explained, you shouldn't have a problem colonizing. We're glad you're here!

I'm thrilled that SK was able to get 200 women! That just shows how many women want to be Greek and are willing to put in the hard work needed to colonize a new group. I saw a pic of all the new members on Facebook, and they look HAPPY!!! Welcome to one of the strongest Greek systems in the nation! We're so glad to have you on campus!!!

People crack me up on this site. Now however many years later you concede and write, "Sigma got good girls when they colonized, look at them now...", but if i remember hearing and reading correctly, they were ripped apart on that old website greek gossip. Saying how horrible their girls were, when in fact they weren't. Which did cause alot of girls who were on the bubble, nervous about a new chapter to drop. Which of course made the instigators happy. Sigma has had better and better pledge classes each year, one of their best years was last year, they have friends in every greek house, so I'm sure they're happy with where they stand. Quota? Ok you got them there. First year they didn't meet quota, but hasn't that happened to many houses throughout the years? AXO, PhiMu, Zeta, KD? Plus didn't they snap bid like 20+ members after some suiciding pnms didn't get their 1st choice?? IDK it's what I heard. Sigma Kappa, my best advice to you is just know who you are as individuals. Don't let anyone tear you down or make you doubt your choice of chapter. Girls on here will say horrible things about your house just to lock down a spot in the tier they want. They've done it to AXO after hc and improvement, they've really done it to Sigma after strong colonization, strong recruitments, and homecoming, they've done it to Theta after they didn't get first in grades (weren't they first for yrs?), they've done it to DG after they were caught drinking with new members, & now Zta.

Everyone will show the love to Sigma Kappa in the early stages, that's how it's done here, but unfortunately, the claws will come out. Tri Sigma has put up with it for 4 years, and kudos to the women who, as the above poster put it, knew who they were, despite the cattiness and insecurities of others, had the confidence and drive to make a brand new chapter thrive (and of course they've thrived or else their nationals would have spent the big bucks on that house). Sigma Kappa at least has some added bonuses Trisigma didn't have: history on campus, although they had to shut their doors, they've been here before, they have a house ready to go, and a head-cheerleader in our very own Julie Drury. But if you think the claws aren't being sharpened as we speak from other chapters, you are sadly mistaken. SK is now the officially the new house and the new house always gets heat. Sad but true. People can say they like change, but not if the change isn't in their favor. Honestly, instead of TriSig being on "the edge of their seats", they're probably just relieved that 4 years of being the "newbies" constantly in the spotlight for houses to focus on any negative no matter how small and ignore any/all positives no matter how great just to pounce will now be transferred to the newest chapter. And I for one feel horrible for them, because admit it or not, the horrible jealous girls in greek life will make it awful for the newest house their first year, guaranteed :(

With all the girls who dropped recruitment, then watched with regret as their friends and roommates went out with all their various sorority sisters, I would have been extremely surprised if SK didn't get a big colonizing class. Here's to keeping the majority. Some will drop, it happens. Here's to hoping catty girls don't push that agenda and push girls to quit then make sure they point it out to anyone who will listen. And here's to remaining hopeful that all the chapters will continue to be supportive and the SK members will enjoy their new greek life. But I agree with a couple previous posters that point out, it will be a matter of time before insecure girls whip out their sharpened claws. Here's to hoping I'm completely wrong :D

Mizzou has an extremely competitive sorority system. There are far more women who seek to join a sorority than who get a bid. Let's be happy that there are more houses on campus now so that more girls have the opportunity to enjoy Greek life. If you are happy and secure in your own house, there is no reason to have anything but joy and support for other houses. I'm proud that I am part of such a strong system at a great school.
#10by: Go SK!
I'm so happy to hear that they have a big pledge class.
Being Greek at Mizzou is wonderful- no matter what chapter you are a part of. If the whole "top tier" "bottom tier" bulls&(t would end, it would be even better. But the bottoml line is that ALL of the women in ALL of the houses at Mizzou are there because they want sistershood and to be part of one of greatest greek systems in the country. Go SK!
