cob/informal

EVERY house has the opportunity to participate in Informal/COB. it all depends on the numbers set by PHA and how many girls they have transferring schools/studying abroad/dropping out. It's not always bottom tier houses like phi mu, sigma or sk! Once the numbers get sent out by PHA the houses will then decide if they want to participate in recruitment. They'll hold events and such that you get invited to. I really encourage you to reach out to EVERY chapter now! Just sent an email to their VP of membership saying you are interested so they can book mark your name! The houses that did do COB after recruitment are more likely to not participate but you never know because a lot of older girls transfer and study abroad which creates open spaces. After the events you'll get an email asking you to either come back for another event or saying they decided to go another way. Most houses only really need like 1-10 girls so it's a lot harder to get in unless you have a lot of friends. it's also a lot harder to get a feel for the chapter.

I really encourage you to go through formal rush in August instead of informal. That's the best way to see and compare every house. The best houses don't do informal and because the process is so secretive, it's very difficult to get invited because more often than not the rush chair will ignore you unless you have friends in the house. On the other hand, if you think college should be just an extension of high school and you want to hang out with people you already know instead of making new friends from other parts of the state and country, well, then go for it.

You let houses know you are interested, then you wait for invitations to rush events. They never come, for a variety of reasons. It might be because you are a minority, or you are disabled, or you don't already have friends in the house. Then you start to feel bad about yourself because you think even the worst houses on this campus aren't interested in you. So you decide Greek life isn't for you and along the way you start becoming anti-Greek. Its all so wrong. It's a wretched system and it's about time Panhell does something about it. Do yourself a favor. Skip informal and just go through regular rush in August.
