making dorm friends

by: Sad face

So hardly any people on my floor in my dorm went through recruitment so I kind feel like the black sheep sorority girl. I try my hardest to say hi, be nice and go to the common areas to hang, but I hardly am ever included in conversations or acknowledged. What made me think it was cause I'm in a sorority was when I heard some girls say some rude things related to Greek life about me once I left the bathroom one particular time. Is this a normal occurrence? Or did I just get unlucky? Thank goodness I went through recruitment or else I'd realistically only have my roommate as my friend.

Most likely they're jealous. Seriously. You have all these new friends and activities to do and they're bored to death in their dorm room on a Friday night.

Sorority life isn't for everyone. The worst thing that we do as members of the Greek community is pass judgment and look down on people who aren't Greek. There is no right or wrong way to go through college. Not everyone can afford to join a sorority or has the time, especially if they have jobs. The best thing you can do is be friendly, be engaged and be open-minded. There is no reason to think everyone you meet will become a good friend, but please keep trying. You'd never know it by spending any time on this website, but kindness can be the key.

I realize that I wouldn't be able to connect with everyone, but I expected that maybe one or two people would be open to being friends. I'll just try harder to be kinder. I just don't want my living situation to be awkward. In the dorms you live in such confined shared space, so people may as well become acquainted. I mean at the end of the day I have have my sisterhood and lovely roommate to fall on, I just want the best case scenario and want to make friends with people who aren't Greek too.

I'm in a dorm that's full of girls who pledged in August and I'm having the same problem. I love my roommate and have a few friends from my pledge class in my dorm, but I have to say the rest of the girls are extremely cliquey and don't seem open at all to new friendships. So I doubt this is a Greek/non-greek thing, but more just overall clique-ness.

I also haven't gotten beyond the "hi" stage w anyone in my dorm. It seems w the new locks forcing us to keep doors closed is resulting in less opportunity to mingle.
