what are ranks based on?

Are sorority ranks (on this site and in people's opinions) based on recruitment rank (who recruits #1, etc.) or social status, or grades or what?
I don't understand what makes one house "better" than another.

Ranks are based on nothing and entirely subjective. What is better to one person, is undesirable to another. People should be wherever they feel comfortable and hopefully with a house whose priorities line up with theirs.

Rankings are done by two types of people. 1) Those who are a member of a house who rank it unrealistically high 2) Those who were cut by a house or who hate it for some other reason and rank it unrealistically low. That's why the numbers are so close. And why you shouldn't believe any of it.
