what a dump!

by: Just wondering

The sorority houses at Mizzou are absolutely gorgeous. Kappa has landmark status, as does PiPhi. PiPhi is redecorated every couple of years. AXO is as cute as can be. Theta and TriDelt are classically pretty. And even though the exterior of the ChiO house is sort of an architectural abomination, the inside is big and new and attractive. Zeta and DG are getting new houses, even though the old ones weren't that bad to begin with. I could go on and on. Which brings me to my question: With the exception of the Beta house, why are the frat houses on this campus such dump? Even the ones that are impressive on the outside are pretty shabby inside. Why don't they take the same sort of pride in where they live as Greek women do? Does anyone know the answer?

I don't know, but I can tell you the first time I stepped foot in one of those classic, brick fraternity houses that are so pretty on the outside, I was appalled. I thought it was an exception. But, you're right, most of them are just awful inside.

Fraternity houses are the place the host all the parties, whether it be a single party thrown by an individual fraternity or a mixer with one of the sororities. The fraternity houses inside take most of the wear and tear at these parties. Sororities are NOT allowed to host any parties at their houses, as per NPC rules.

That doesn't explain how run down they are or how dirty on a daily basis. Or that the furniture looks like it's from 1981. I know that if I had a brother who was interested in joining a fraternity on this campus and my parents saw where and how he would be living, there's no way they would pay for that.

Fraternities are full of guys. Guys don't care about tasteful decor, important antiques, and meticulous housekeeping. LOL

There is a huge difference between important antiques and meticulous housekeeping vs. living like an animal. I'm sure in your own way you feel the need to justify these substandard living conditions, but I think it's disgusting. I mean, have a little pride.

My brother refused to live in his fraternity house because it was so disgusting.
