Went through most of recruitment and had houses I really liked all week, In the end I was left with 2 houses which had really nice people but not girls I really connected with and could imagine spending countless hours with for the next few years. I honesly mean nothing bad to those houses because they were girls I liked but just didn't click with so I ended up dropping at the very end(pi chi sensing that with me also). So now I am debating going through informal and not sure how it works and worried about what girls who have ended up in houses say.
Which houses are known as 'cliquey'? ive heard from many that not just going through recruitment but once they were there on bid day they felt like so many girls knew each other from high school. I know people used to say that was tridelt and that's why they had their setback, but what are the other houses now?I tend to be a little on the shy side so I think going in to a house where so many now each other from high school would be really bad for me.
Also, do the girls that do informal all get asked back at the same time? Do they do initiation with the other girls that received bids on bid day or do they do it later?
And does getting a later bid put you at the end of the list for living in house as a sophomore?
Thank you for any information and please don't tell me how awful it was that I dropped, I really gave it all I had but just didn't feel the connection on the last day. No one is more disappointed with the outcome than me

Your options are limited for informal recruitment. Only certain houses will COB. Typically we see sigma, KD, phi mu, zeta, and SK COB every year. They will take anywhere between 5-20 girls.
Sometimes a mid tier house like Adpi or AXO COB as well, however the mid tier houses typically don't need as many girls. They will only handout 1-5 bids to make up for numbers of girls that went abroad or transferred.
If you wait to do formal as a sophomore you will have similar problems. You will be low on the bid list for any house because you are up against mostly freshman. You will probably see a low number of houses that call you back to each round.
If you're looking for a top tier house for either COB or formal as a sophomore, you most likely won't get one. Mid tier will be selective as their spots are very limited. Bottom tier houses are easier to join only because they typically can take more girls, however it is not guaranteed!
If you do informal, make sure you make goood friends with the girls that are actives in that chapter. Your connections will be your way in. If you rush as a sophomore, you need to make sure your grades are high (3.4 or higher), and that you are involved in other groups on campus.

There were other houses besides Phi Mu and Sigma who took new members via COB last year.
Every house has done so in the past, those that say they haven't aren't being truthful.

Nationals have something to say about whether a house can COB. I know our national doesn't allow it, nor do Theta's ADPi's and Kappa's. So not every house does it.

Dg and AXO did not cob last year. Both houses were over chapter total so that would be impossible for them to hand out any more bids. Sometimes they do cob though and it just depends on the year. According to Panhellenic the only houses who cobbed were sigma, phi mu, KD and alpha phi. These houses probably will cob again this year because they have lower retention rates but that doesn't mean they aren't great houses! KD and phi mu are on the rise and accepting a cob bid from them would be an excellent option:)

Also, all houses have "cliques." There are 300 women in each house, you are not gong to be best friends with every one of them. You will find a group of friends to hang out with no matter what house you join.
In addition to that, some houses have more out of state girls who don't know anyone going into recruitment such. As pi phi. You will see a lot of STL girls going to Tri delt DG, or chi o. But typically it's not a problem!
Houses that are known for great sisterhood are: KD, phi mu, AXO. They may value inclusivity with their PC more so than other houses because of their sisterhood.

If a house cut you once there's not much of a chance they will be interested the second time around. Your best chance was rush your freshman year. Sorry you were too picky, but I think you just screwed yourself out of Greek life.

That is not true at all. There are a ton of girls that go through recruitment and end up dropping and then cob and get a house that dropped them at some point. There are very few girls who skip formal and just go to informal recruitment.
And aphi has a lot of out of state girls from the north (or maybe south?) suburbs of chicaga that went to the same high school so if you know any of them you might want to check that as an option(unless you want to avoid the cliqueness, wasn't clear on your post)

This is college, why in the world would you want to be in a sorority with a bunch of people you went to high school with. Time to grow up and be your own person unless you are that insecure that you can't function on your own. And if that's the case shoulda stayed home with mommy and daddy rather than make college a continuation of high school.

IF that is true that aphi takes their friends from high school they are dumber and more pathetic than people already think. The demise of tridelt was taking too many st Louis girls that everyone knew and zeta still can't lose that 'mean girl' image they got when they started taking all the girls from the same highschools. Assuming this is true now of aphi, their antics on these boards the past few months put them on the same path as two other houses that fell(and they had grades and looks at the time they started falling). C'mon aph,we know you are patrolling these boards 24/7, are you really now imitating zeta and tri delt?

I don't know even ONE GIRL who was cut by a house during formal rush who got into that house later.

Then please explain how a girl goes through recruitmet, doesn't get cut by a house but ends up dropping..and then going through informal and ends up in a house that didn't cut her? Doesn't even make sense..is someone trying to bury a post?

Just curious. I was at aphi and liked them along with about 5 other houses, could see my self there. Being an out of state person 2 of the girls asked me several times exacly where my high school was. I thought they were referring to southern suburbs, and yes my school was out that way. but the one girl on my floor that got a bid said they only take out of state girls from the north side, so I was totally confused. they cut me early which was ok-LOVE my house and couldn't be happier. Just got a really weird vibe and wasn't sure if they wanted me or didn't, liked my area of Chicago or not. so I'm curious if they have a lot of state people, where are they from?

I just love when trolls get on here and say "we take a lot of out of state girls". Won't they don't tell PNM's is that thought the girls may be out of states , they are all from the same high schools as their current members!!! Way to grow up in college, still needing those same high school friends? Who want's to be in a house like that? Y'all need to grow a pair!

Hi OP,
Getting back to your original thoughts...
Let's get this out in the open from the start: Yes, I am a sorority woman. Yes, I got my first choice. I'm happy with my sisters and have zero regrets about going Greek or what sisterhood I joined. There. Now hopeful no one can call me out for being salty for one reason or another.
I can't blame you for dropping out of formal recruitment because the several houses you liked cut you. Joining a sorority is a huge financial, social, and emotional commitment. If your gut feeling was that the houses you had left were not worth it, I'm glad you went with your gut. No one should be guilted into making a commitment that will affect so many aspects of your college life and beyond. People take this "trust the system" bs a bit far.
Now, I suggest you do some soul-searching, because it's only you who can answer this question: "Is it more important for me to be in ABC sorority, or to be a member of Greek life?" When you can answer this question, you'll know whether going through informal is right or not. You're also going to have some time to adjust to college life and to see what the Greeks are like outside of recruitment. I wish you the best of luck that this works out.

This thread is hysterical. The last poster is hilarious! It is not a secret what goes on-you guys are pathetic. You are probably the biggest issue why the most 'females' that transfer out of mizzou are in greek life. AND a certain sorority. And btw, please brush up on your grammar because seriously you guys border on illiterate! WowS1

Phi Mu and Sigma are the only ones that will COB. SK and KD are already at average chapter size.
