quota

by:

Could someone explain why quota was lower this year when there is clearly not room for all the quality girls going through recruitment? Last year around 25% did not receive a bid and this year it was closer to 30%. It almost seems shady by PHA to charge $200 per girl knowing the odds. At least put a cap on registration. It's sad if a girl want to be part of Greek life it's not really their choice.

Most of those girls dropped out of rush, by choice. They did it because they were angry that the top sororities on this campus didn't think they were all that and they were unwilling to settle for the bottom houses. In other words, they were in a snit. Now, why in the world would PanHel be responsible for their decision? By far the majority of girls who stuck with it to the end wound up with a house. And that's as it should be. The girls who are committed to Greek life are far more important than those who are just in it for status. Hmmm..... Maybe THAT'S why they were cut.

Except- I'm sorry for your misunderstanding math, equations and number sense. When 1500 girls go through recruitment and less than 1100 is quota it's not girls dropping out because they didn't get their top choice. It's girls getting dropped because they had no choice.

I'm sorry your parents coddled you but like it or not but being a member of Greek life is literally a social club. Its a privilege to be apart of not a given. Some girls rush with a low GPA, and some drop out bc they think they're too good for anything other than bottom tier. Plz stop complaining

you clearly don't understand how RFM works and what quota even means. Quota is not determined until after AFTER preference round... it's based only on the number of women left in the process at the end of the week.

Why can't they just divide who's left by number of sororities?

Does that mean that fall COB is an option for some houses to get higer house totals?

There are standards set by panhel (gpa) in order to have the best girls going through. Because such big cuts are made early on, a lot of top quality girls are cut. By the time many girls get to the end, there are even bigger cuts being made. There are a ton of girls that either got dropped, or dropped because they didn't feel a connection to a house, thus, numbers just being out of whack. Until panhel gives a max number of girls a house can cut early on things won't change. If each house had to hang on to more girls early on it would keep more girls in the mix and force quota to be higher.
No one should criticize any girl for dropping-there are so FEW girls that drop because they don't get a 'top' house. There are more girls that drop later because the last few houses they are left with are not houses they fit with.

Quota isn't officially set until pref night when they see how many girls have dropped out and PHA can look at numbers and see what should be attainable for every house. there were about 1,100 girls who actually preffed at least one house. So quota being 71 seems pretty fair to me considering a lot of houses took over that number

There is always the option to add a sorority or two down the road.
