recruitment in the spring?

by:

Rush didn't work out for me the way I would've hoped for a number of reasons and I want to rush in the spring! I plan on getting good grades, getting involved on campus, and breaking out of my shell a bit before then. I have a few questions though. How does PHA recruitment work in the spring? How good are my chances of getting into a sorority? Do houses like Alpha Chi Omega and Chi Omega participate? Should I wait until I'm a sophomore to rush? Also, feel free to give me as much information as you'd like on this!

Many houses have an unwritten no Sophmore rule. I would try to make friends with girls in houses and see if the ones you are interested in have that rule.

Do you have any idea what houses have that rule?

The houses that have this rule tend to be the most wanted houses. So if you're thinking about who's most popular that should help you get an idea.

Low tier houses MIGHT give you a chance if you're lucky.

That's the facts.

Also like the other poster said it's not so much a rule as the fact that these houses are so popular that they have their pick of who they will take because people love them and rank them highly. And therefore these houses don't have to take sophomores because they can fill their quota with highly ranked (very wanted) freshmen.

Even if you have strong connections inside the house it can be hard to overcome this.

My recommendation is to be realistic about who will want you when you're not a first semester freshman.

The houses that are going to COB in the spring are going to be the less popular ones from whom girls have dropped. And the houses that are going to actually be willing to give you a chance as a sophomore are also the less popular ones.

You're not a special snowflake, not by any means. So set your sights to a realistic standard.

Every house at Mizzou is great and will give you a chance to meet lifelong friends and participate in socials and philanthropy and have a sisterhood for life. The question is whether you actually want that. And whether you want what is realistic for you.

Me? I'd rather be in the least popular house than be a GDI. I joined as a sophomore and I'm in what people on this site would consider a lower tier house and I have friends who are in a number of other chapters. We all have similar experiences and none of us would give up being Greek for anything. I feel so lucky that I have the most wonderful sisters

Besides, the rankings are BS anyway. They don't tell you that your sisters are going to accept you and be honest and hardworking and kind. There are all sorts of personalities in all the houses so you will find your place in any house.

It's not necessarily a rule as much as it's trying to get girls for 4 years rather than 3. Basically sophomores, at least in my house, have to be ranked high every day of recruitment and have stellar grades, as well as an alum or in house rec.
