It is NOT common for girls to be cut! If your HS grades were atrocious (below 2.75/3.0) or were into some shady business that people would know about here at Mizzou, you might be cut. Most of the girls who don't make it to bid day are those who 1) dropped or 2) didn't maximize their options/suicided/didn't put every house down on their preference card.
Hope this helps! It's a little confusing but I'd say to just not worry about it and maximize your options.

Go to every party you're invited to. Rank all the houses you've been invited to each day. Repeat each day.

Maximize your options means that when you get to pref for the last time pref every house. DO NOT suicide bid. You run a huge risk of not getting into a house at all.

Maximizing your options means that each and every time you are asked to list a certain number of houses that you would like to return to, that you list that number. It might mean going back to some houses that aren't among your favorites, but it also indicates that you are serious about wanting to be part of the Greek system. Besides, it never hurts to visit more often and to learn more about a house by visiting again.
