chill houses
by: WonderingI get good grades and study, but I am looking forward to being at college and just really being with people who like to chill and have a good time. I'm not worried at all about letting my grades go as I am dependent on scholarships and financial aid, and being a good student is how I was raised, so I'm not worried about conflict-that's what comes first. However, I really want to be in a laid back house with girls who like to chill and have a good time. I love going out on the weekends and am really looking forward to that with college life. I know I won't make any decision until I go through recruitement, but are there houses that attract more girls like me, are there some to just clearly stay away from because they will destroy my current beliefs/standards? Again, just looking for opinions because I'm curious, plan to go with what feels right next month. Opinoins?

I was exactly the same going into recruitment, sorority life for me was about the social aspect, I knew I could maintain straight A's no matter what house I was in. The most chill social houses are GPhi, APhi and DG. Tridelt is social but a lot of drama, same with Zeta. Houses like AXO, XO and Pi Phi also provide a decent mix of great academics but their social life is more modest than the others mentioned (but you still won't have a hard time finding a good time.) No house could destroy your standards, girls that go Greek are generally ambitious and focused, no matter what house!

if you want a grade house on campus, theta is the way to go. if you want a social, laid back house, tri delt or gphi is the way to go. if you want a house that could care less about your grades or anything else, a phi or zeta is the way to go. some houses still expect you to have volunteer hours and grades in addition to their own requirements(tri delt, gphi, pi phi, chio, adpi) but those are the houses where accomplishing those things are pretty laid back and easy to do. All pretty much respectable houses and some climbing to better themselves.

This PNM needs to know that you are going to have to step it up in college - and we mean in EVERY every aspect of your life. Good study habits will help, but college/Greek life is about bringing your best to everything you do.
If you want to be "chill" maybe you shouldn't be in a sorority, where the Greek life expects you to better yourself?!

seriously? if you want to be a part of greek life, more than a few months, it's up to you...zeta will be fine this year bc girls want to be part of the new house. aphi is pathetic with their grades, either you will be kicked out or quit if you don't have a 3.0 and most houses are above that. tri delt, gphi, piphi, dg, all have grade cut offs. you can totally be chill, but if you don't care about grades those are not houses for you. prior to current rumors, the house that took any girl was aphi, with no grade cut off at all. seriously don't think they are changing that but 'rumor' says they are. no official words from greek row..which is odd..
