a phi & zeta

It all depends on who you ask. On this board and campus reputation wise, people say there is just too much drama and cattiness in their house, not just with other sororities but within their own house. Both houses have girls who are friends with a lot of people in other houses, so that's a good thing. It's like with another house people consider top, when you get too many 'hometown' girls joining the same sorority, whether in state or out, it just gets too cliquey, or so the reputation says. No clue what happened with aphi this year, the drama on this board was not a good thing and a clear misdirection within their house, probably because of feeling threatened by dg and zeta and their new house. Eliminate that and they were fine-not great, not bad-just fine. And guessing they will be due for a new house sooner than later, so that could help them in the next few years.

I don't think Zeta is bad at all. In fact, in the past year it has done a lot better at recruiting and retaining members. But APhi has been in a downward spiral. Much of it is because they have no grade cutoff during rush, so they will take girls who are only marginally prepared to do well academically. Lots of them don't make it and drop or leave school. But then when they have had chances to improve going forward, they were particularly lazy and just took friends and friends of friends for their spring pledge class. What that meant is that the house is even more cliquey and inbred, and not very welcoming to other girls. So their retention issues will continue. Worst of all, that group could only muster a 2.9 gpa, which is abysmal. I'm surprised that their alums or national haven't stepped in to shake things up, because this is a house that is definitely going in the wrong direction.

Aphi is not a bad house. They don't have mandatory events or study hours so it's reflected in their grades and involvement. Their nationals believe that it is important for a member to WANT to participate, not feel forced too like the rest of our chapters.

Zeta is only considered bad because they have catty mean girls. Honestly, a lot of zetas I know don't hang out with other zetas at all. They will either drop out completely or find friends in other sororities to hang out with. Too much drama gives the house a bad name. It's too bad because they could be great if they just cleaned house.
