i don't get it
by: ?/?/?I'm not trying to be overly critical of Alpha Phi, but I do find myself wondering about some things. Alpha Phi is one of the older sororities on this campus. It has been around longer than the newcomers -- SK, Sigma, PhiMu, KD -- of course. But since it was established here in 1910 it also actually has been around longer than some extremely well-established houses like ADPi (1915), TriDelt (1915), Gamma Phi (1921) and Alpha Chi Omega (1922). So why does a house with such a rich history have such low standards? They struggle at retention, they have grades that are below the all-sorority average (especially for new members) and their actual physical house just isn't on the same level as some of the sororities mentioned above. Is it lack of support from nationals? Is it a bad alumni network? Is loyalty lacking after graduation? I would love to know how it got into this situation.

I think if there is one thing the last few weeks have showed us, it is why they have the retention problem they do. This catty and defensive attitude along with pulling in and criticizing other houses paints a perfect picture of what goes on behind closed doors. People have always wondered why alpha phi and zeta have poor grades and poor retention when by all 'appearances' it seems they are a good house. With what everyone has witnessed happening on these boards, I don't think much more of an explanation is needed. Not even zeta was ever this catty. What is working for other houses is they acknowledge the problems they have and they address them, not defend them. Alphaphi will continue to get girls that are desperate to be part of any house, not part of the greek system and sisterhood. They will then continue to lose those girls. I think the difference this year is zeta will be alpha phis biggest competition and predict zeta is going to pull the decent girls alpha phi used to get.

There's an opportunity in August for Alpha Phi. They have the chance to attract a different type of girl. Other houses on this campus have done it and it works. In the past Theta rushed to get prettier girls, TriDelt rushed to get girls who were more well-rounded and involved and AXO rushed to get girls who were more involved and outgoing. When your reputation has taken a hit the way Alpha Phi's has, it's time for a makeover. It can start by instituting a grade cutoff and it can end with choosing girls who have more to offer than just looks. If they don't do something about their reputation, they run the risk of being a permanent joke in greektown and forever known has the house that had the chance to do something to improve but still kept taking the same old superficial girls.

Alpha Phi has been trying all night to bury this post, but it's worth seeing. They have a chance to cjhange their priorities and do something positive to improve their reputation and attract girls who are more likely to make grades and stay in school. Let's hope they do it.

THIS is the post Alpha Phi is trying to bury. Well. Nice try. But we know the truth. You have problems and you are trying to hide them, just like you are trying to hide this post. I hope PNMs keep this in mind: that Alpha Phi would rather hide their problems than deal with them.
#8by: Beware
A phi keeps trying to burry this post, give it a few days and it will be gone. They are in full on damage control mode, they have girls on this website monitoring it 24/7 and they are using some of their recruitment money to pay GR to get rid of these post completely

Same or less than what? I don't think we're talking about specific gpa's here (although that 2.9 sure was a black mark). We're talking about the entire house and its standing on campus. And if you expect to win points, Alpha Phi, by noting that your gpa is better than a bunch of fraternities, well, that's pretty pathetic. There are about two fraternities worth joining on this campus and the rest are an embarrassment. Most fraternities here are where immature losers go to feel good about themselves.
