pi phi's gpa rush requirement?

by:

I am a pi phi legacy. My GPA is far from good. I have a 3.1 unweighted and a 4.1 weighted. What are my chances of getting a bid from pi phi?

A 3.1 wouldn't make the grade cut. The fact that your gpa is 4.1 weighted indicates you took some honors and IB/AP classes, which is good. But in a school that gives 5-point A's for AP and Honors classes, PiPhi would expect to see closer to a 4.5-4.6. We also would expect to see some of the more difficult AP classes: i.e. physics, chem and calc AB and BC, not history or foreign language. It's not so much the grades as it is knowing that you know how to study and will help, not hurt, our house gpa. And we don't really take grade risks. So my advice would be keep an open mind when you go through rush and seriously weigh any and all houses.

What is the grade cut off for Pi Phi? Does Pi Phi take Sophomores, if I should decided to rush my sophomore year instead, thus giving me time to get my GPA up?

Your best chance is always to rush as a freshman. There are lots of great houses out there. Don't ever set your heart on just one.

It is also okay not to bid Pi Phi. Just because you are a legacy for Pi Phi does not mean you'll like them. There are other houses that you might connect more with. If the only reason you are considering rushing as a sophomore is because you wouldn't make grades for one house, a house that even if you did have the grades for might not take you, then I would rethink why you are rushing. That comes off mean, and I am sorry it does, but don't just rush because you're a legacy at a house, rush because you want to be a part of something bigger and better, be a part of a sisterhood who will stand by you through the good and the bad times. I personally did not like the house I was a legacy at, therefore I cut them. I went with my cut and how I felt. I came in with an open mind rather than going in being like "I am a legacy here, so I am going to get a bid from them". Come in with an open mind, and don't sell yourself short.

Far more legacies are cut than are pledged at the top houses. Don't ever think being a legacy makes you a shoo-in.

What are my chances of getting a bid at all with such a low GPA? What sororities do not cut for a 3.1 GPA?

With lower enrollment you'll get in but not a top house with a 3.1
Informal is very sketchy, don't count on it even if you have a 4.0 , you have to know someone to get in

I am going to have to disagree. Yes enrollment is low, but there are still tons of girls that are going to rush. PNM classes are going to be around the same as every year. It is still going to be just as competitive as it has before Therefore, I would stray away from "with lower enrollment you'll get in" because you ARE NOT guaranteed a spot just because of "lower" enrollment.

Also, you do not have to know anyone in the house to go through informal. Informal is more lad back, not as much pressure as formal recruitment. The only thing with informal is not every house does it. Only one house might do informal, or maybe not even one house will do it. It just depends on the year and the numbers.
