double legacy

by:

When I went through rush I was a double legacy to two houses that are considered among the best. I had one sister who went to Mizzou three years earlier and was abroad during rush. I had two cousins in different houses and another, older sister who had graduated from a big Ten university with a respected Greek scene. I was getting information from all sides about which houses to pledge and, interestingly, on the last day of rush I had both my legacy houses and another that I just loved. I wound up not choosing one of my legacy houses and am thrilled to be where I am. But here's what I found during rush. There were houses I could see myself in and houses I would never choose --I would rather not be Greek than be in those houses. I actually could have seen myself as an AXO, DDD, XO, PiPhi, DG, Theta, ADPi, KD or Kappa. (And, yes, my house and my legacy houses are listed there). I would have dropped if I had wound up with PhiMu, SK, Sigma, APhi or Zeta. It's mainly about how their reputations would have reflected on me and also the security element. Some of these houses just aren't very well established and don't seem to have much support from their alums or nationals and might not be around in 20+ years. I realized this is very subjective. Tell me why I am wrong.

Be anymore annoying?! I feel sorry for the rest of your sisters, for putting up with your entitled ass!

This is just a longwinded way of telling us you're an elitist brat. Girls like you, with family in big Texas sororities and triple family legacies are a dime a dozen. The real world is gonna sting. Enjoy your fantasy world while you can sweetie.

Wow. When did Texas become part of the Big Ten???????????? That surely will come as big news. And I was a double legacy, as I stated, not a triple legacy. I admitted my list was subjective. How about instead of attacking me, just tell me why I am wrong about my perceptions.

This is what the OP wrote: "I had two cousins in different houses and another, older sister who had graduated from a Big Ten university with a respected Greek scene." So perhaps YOU should consider paying attention.

OK. This is why I think you're wrong, Every person has to decide what's for them on their own. As you state, your list is subjective and you have good reasons why your decisions were right for you. While I agree with most of them, I think you have to be respectful of other girls and their thought processes, too. There isn't just one right answer.

I pretty much agree with your perceptions. They weren't that different from mine. That's what PNMs have to decide: do they want to be greek no matter what or only if certain houses are interested. It's not an easy decision.

What happens when you have a legacy that meets ALL of your standards and criteria, and you still cut her - makes me think your standards aren't following your National's/Alum recommendations, but more of who you want/don't want in your house.

That means we didn't think you fit in with our girls and we have the right to make that choice

What do you think "standards and criteria" means, anyway? It means you have to be recommended by the people you talk with in the house during rush, among other things. How is that deviating from our national's recommendations? Believe me, national deals with this all the time. They appreciate the connection legacies have to our house, but would never expect us to take a pledge class full of legacies. What message would that send to the outstanding women who want our house that we would have to cut? And how do you bring in diversity if you are just taking the same types of people? Don't get me wrong, we have GREAT legacies. But we judge them just as strictly as anyone else going through rush.
