good idea
by: MeThere is a movement afoot by three of Mizzou's most respected houses to reduce quota this year. Their thinking is that the current pledge class sizes are just too big. Not everyone can live in the house when pledge classes are that big and you can't even get to know everyone who technically is your sister. But these houses are all on very firm financial footing, rarely have girls drop and have a strong national and local alumni network to help keep their houses up to date. They have money to burn. Many other houses are hoping quota will stay the same to help support their house, in part because they are some of the newer/'weaker houses on campus without as strong an alumni network. so what do you think this is the year the formula should be changed and/or quota reduced?

Three houses at Mizzou are never going to get the system changed. Panhellenic follows RFM, release figures methodology. This is a set system (created by the National Panhellenic Conference, which all Mizzou panhellenic sororities are a part of) that determines the number of girls each house has to cut each day and ultimately, quota. Quota is decided without input from the sororities, so you can't just "make quota smaller". It's simply not possible. RFM is designed to match as many PNMs to houses as possible while allowing all chapters to meet quota and be stable, and it works. If you would like to learn more you can go to this link www.npcwomen.org/resources/pdf/RFM%20Update.pdf
Bottom line, RFM and quota are completely out of our hands. This "movement" is bound to fail, and likely doesn't even exist. Even if it did, in order for RFM to change it would have to be many sororities taking issue with it on a national level - the collegiate chapters at Mizzou has no power.

Until lol liar delivered her little sililoquy tellomg us all how stupid we were, I was going to reply that I agree pledge classes are much too large. I remember meeting a girl in my geology lecture at the beginning of second semester and I thought she was great. Imagine my surprise when she started talking about the house and what fun it would be to move in the next year. I didn't even know she was in my pledge class! It's my fault because I'm not very observant and she remembered me, but, still, if the size was more manageable that never would have happened.

From what I understand, that's not exactly true. Just ask PHC at Indiana University. Not all university PanHels subscribe to this method and the three houses here that are encouraging leaving the system and determining quota on their own are among the oldest and strongest houses on this campus. Money talks and they are putting their money where their mouth is. It might not happen this year, but if quota doesn't get reduced one way or another, these three (and three others who are almost on board) will make it happen eventually. The problem is that they are finding that loyalty to a chapter is greatly reduced if you can't live in the house. And the entire national depends on that loyalty.
