Is there any such thing as having too many recommendation letters for a certain house?

Two or three should be the max. Any more than that and you just seem desperate. And be sure that each one focuses on a different aspect of why you are outstanding. One could be sports, one could be music, one could be academics, for example And make sure the person writing the rec REALLY knows you. If it's a superficial rec, you might as well not have it.
